June 24 - July 10 ........Summer Swimming Lessons
Summer Swim Lessons for children ages 3 years and older will be held at Bangor Memorial Park Pool, June 24th through July 10th. Classes will run on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Rain-day make ups will be, July 15th and 17th. Children will learn the fundamentals of swimming, and have fun while doing it.

The annual Bangor Elks Lodge #1106 golf tournament that benefits major projects will be held on Monday, June 30, 2014 at Whitetail Golf Club.

It's time for the dogs to have some fun! You don't need any experience to give the new sport of Barn Hunt a try. Big or small, pure bred or good old All American - dogs dig, tunnel and climb through bales of straw to find stuff. It makes for a rollicking good time for everyone!!
On July 5 at the American Legion, 201 E. 5th Street, East Stroudsburg we will have a Barn Hunt to benefit Pocono Animal Welfare Society. You can find an entry form at the PAWS website (fill it out and save time) or show up at 9:30 am on July 5th where we will take entries until our limit of 100 runs is reached. Entries are $10 each. Food will be available for purchase and you can then take your dog for a romp on the trails of Zacharias Pond Park. Safe Haven Pet Adoption Day Safe Haven Pet Rescue will hold an adoption day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 6, at Tractor Supply, Rte. 209, Brodheadsville.
Safe Haven will have many young dogs available for you to meet and get to know. Safe Haven requires a pre-adoption application with references and a home visit prior to adoption. Safe Haven Pet Rescue is a small group of dedicated volunteers from the West End of the Poconos who save highly adoptable dogs from high kill and overcrowded shelters and finds them loving homes. Shelter killing is the number one cause of dog deaths and Safe Haven has saved more than 700 lives so far. Safe Haven Rescue needs volunteers to help with adoption days, fundraising, transporting dogs to vets and groomers and fostering homeless dogs until they find their forever homes. Stroudsburg (PA) – The sounds of traditional music from a by-gone era will fill the air at Quiet Valley Living Historical Farm on Saturday July 12 from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Supported in part by a Project Stream grant from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, the eighth annual “Music in the Valley” will feature music on the historic farm, reminiscent of how it would have been heard in the 19th century.
A variety of groups will perform at different venues around the farm and the day will end with a jam session at 5:00. As well as performances throughout the day, there will be free hands-on sessions to provide visitors with an opportunity to take a closer look at the music and maybe even try a featured instrument. There will be a sing-a-long, storytelling and activities for children and the young at heart! Puppeteer, Bonnie Scott, will hold puppet shows throughout the day and the One Room School will be open. Wagon rides will take place weather permitting. There will be a seminar on traditional music presented by Tom Druckenmiller, Betty Druckenmiller and Norm Williams. A wonderful opportunity to learn the background of songs you still know and love and how the music of our country developed through the last two centuries. The event will be held rain or shine, under tents as needed. Admission is $10.00 for adults, $5.00 for children 3 – 12 which includes the farm tour. The farm tours will run on Saturday from 10:00 to 5:00. Schedule is subject to change. Great fun for all ages, so come for a few hours or make a day of it.
