31st Annual Farm Animal Frolic Quiet Valley’s 31st annual Farm Animal Frolic is May 18, 19 and May 25, 26, Saturdays 10 am to 4 pm, and Sundays noon to 4 pm.
To folks in the 21st century springtime means warmer weather, flowers blooming and the return of robins. In the early 1800s it meant fresh greens became available, a real treat after a bland winter diet. The kitchen garden was planted with such things as peas, onions, beets and carrots. Chickens started laying eggs again and it was also when the animals on the homestead had their babies. At Farm Animal Frolic we celebrate the renewal of life that comes with the season of spring. Meet the baby farm animals up close and personal. See kid goats and lambs frolicking about. If you’ve ever wonder where the saying “two shakes of a lamb’s tail” came from you can see the reason for yourself. Chicks will be peeping away and some will be hatching in incubators so visitors can watch them crack out of their shells. There will be a new calf for the children to meet and guests of all ages will laugh at the ducklings as they play in the water. Twice a day there is a special children's show where youngsters can enjoy puppet shows or storytelling. There are opportunities to play old fashion games, jump in the hay or try the Fish Pond. Kathy Uhler, from the Pocono Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, will present a show on local wildlife on Saturday May 18th at 12:30 and 2:00. New at Frolic this year is the U.S. Detachment of Engineers Civil War re-enactors who will talk about map making on May 18th and 19th. Admission is $8.00 for Adults and $5.00 for ages 3 thru 12. Children under 3 years of age are free. Pony Rides and Horse-drawn Wagon Rides are an additional charge and are weather permitting. Refreshments are available. No Smoking or Pets. Frolic is held Rain or Shine. The schedule and prices are subject to change. All funds raised go to support the mission of the non-profit farm museum.

LVDA Youth Development Program is holding a clinic with Alexa Derr. Riders may select to ride in a Private or Semi-Private session. This clinic is expected to fill quickly, if you're interested in participating, please be sure you have your 2019 membership before opening date. Alexa Derr is a Grand Prix trainer based out of her own Vue de Lou Dressage LLC in Reinholds, PA. She has her USDF Bronze, Silver, and Gold medals, USPC HB certification and is a D4K WIT alumna. She has over 7 years experience competing nationally and internationally at the FEI levels representing the US and Region 1 at NAJYRC, Festival of Champions, GAIGs, CBLMs, and Dressage at Devon. Alexa’s personal and professional medley of Dressage/event horses, has given her confidence in approaching training from all different angles. Riders learning with her not only learn how to correctly execute each movement as you go up the levels, but also learn problem-solving skills when working on their own. She focuses her lessons and training rides on the clear use and response of the aids as well. Once this is achieved, she uses a variety of exercises to develop sustainable suppleness, muscular strength, and ease of lateral movements Amazon May Offer Free Music Amazon is reportedly in talks to offer a free, ad-supported tier of its music service, according to a report from Billboard. Although there aren’t details about whether it will be more radio-like or on-demand, Billboard suggests this new free service will emphasize Amazon as a direct competitor to market leader Spotify.
Amazon plans to market the new option through its Echo speakers, and Billboard says that it could be available as soon as this week. The free tier will have a limited catalog of music, and Amazon reportedly obtained the licenses by offering participating labels a deal to pay per stream. The payment rate is not tied to the amount of advertising Amazon sells. Music is a robust portion of Amazon’s business — last year a representative told The Vergethat Amazon Music has tens of millions of active subscribers. This could be in part because of deals in other countries. US Prime members have access to a select catalog of music for free, and can separately buy a larger monthly music subscription, which ranges from $3.99 to $9.99, depending on the number of devices used and if you’re already an Amazon Prime member. In other countries, like India, Amazon offers much cheaper Prime memberships with music and video services bundled in. Despite Amazon Music’s growth, the category is still a loss leader for the company. But, it can afford to subsidize the cost. Amazon made over $10 billion in profits last year, largely because of its cloud computing division, Amazon Web Services. Public Service Announcements. Collecting Stuffed Animal Service Project

April 25 Lunch With The Author The Blue Mountain Community Library invites you to “LUNCH WITH AN AUTHOR” on Thursday, April 25, 2019 at Grace United Methodist Church, 404 E. Mountain Ave., Pen Argyl, PA. The Church is handicapped accessible with ample parking. (Enter from the lower parking lot.) Local author, Maryann McFadden will discuss her novel “The Cemetery Keeper’s Wife,” her longest and most challenging work to date. It tells the story of two brave and complicated women, one real and one fictional, and an unlikely bond that transcends more than a century as they search against all odds for love, redemption and a place to belong. McFadden moved at age 10 from Brooklyn, NY to Hackettstown, NJ and lived near Union Cemetery. She became intrigued by a monument in the Cemetery. The name and picture on the monument was of Tillie Smith, a 19 year old woman who “Died in Defense of Her Honor.” This haunted Maryann and she felt as if she was meant to write this novel, to give Tillie a voice. McFadden will have a question and answer session about her book and a Book signing. Copies will be available to purchase. Luncheon, catered by Cafe ’on Broadway, will be at 12:00 pm (Doors open at 11:30 am) and will consist of soup, sandwich, chips, desserts and beverages. Bangor Library New Books
Fine Policy For Kids
The Bangor Public library is happy to announce a new policy for kids to take responsibility for their own fines. Starting now if a junior patron (ages 15 years old or under) owes fines on their card only they may read their fines away. The junior patron will be required to read at the library in front of one of the staff members. Junior patrons will fill out a reading log; every half hour that they read will equal $1.00 off their fines. Fines can only be read off junior patron cards. The library believes that with this new policy junior patrons will learn responsibility as well as filling in the reading gap that so many kids face today. For more information please contact the library at 610-588-4136 March 28
