![]() Rep. Joe Emrick's Office is on the Move
On Tuesday, Jan. 2, Rep. Emrick and his staff will open our new Slate Belt district office, which will be located at 447 Blue Valley Drive, Bangor (next to the Capitol Plaza on Route 512). Their first and foremost goal is to serve residents of the 137th Legislative District in the most efficient and effective manner possible. This new Slate Belt office location is being opened with you, the constituent, in mind. Here are a few reasons why: Protecting your privacy has long been a serious concern at our current location. That will not be the case at the Blue Valley Drive office. The new office is compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act and offers plenty of parking. The new office location will feature a conference room that can accommodate both large and small group meetings. At the same time, the staff will have added work space to accomplish their tasks. This portion of Route 512 has a higher volume of traffic, making it more accessible to a greater number of people. While they are changing office locations, there will be NO change in the level of quality and personal service they deliver to you, the taxpayers. The last day at the Mt. Bethel Plaza location will be Friday, Dec. 29. The new office will open at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 2. Where Does Your Snot (Mucous) Come From?Christmas Break at Bloom

Bugsy Siegel opens Flamingo Hotel 1946
On December 26, 1946, in Las Vegas, Nevada, mobster Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegel opens The Pink Flamingo Hotel & Casino at a total cost of $6 million. The 40-acre facility wasn’t complete and Siegel was hoping to raise some revenue with the grand opening.
Well-known singer and comedian Jimmy Durante headlined the entertainment, with music by Cuban band leader Xavier Cugat. Some of Siegel’s Hollywood friends, including actors George Raft, George Sanders, Sonny Tufts and George Jessel were in attendance.
The grand opening, however, was a flop. Bad weather kept many other Hollywood guests from arriving. And because gamblers had no rooms at the hotel, they took their winnings and gambled elsewhere. The casino lost $300,000 in the first week of operation.

BASD Wellness Walking Programs
The Bangor Area School District Wellness Committee wants to extend an invitation to the families in our school community to participate in the following healthy activities throughout the school year. These are programs that the faculty eagerly awaits and competes in each year.
