One Sock can help you Sleep
It’s a proven fact that a low body temperature is the key to a good night’s sleep. In fact, research has shown that we get the best sleep when a room is between 60 to 67 degrees Fahrenheit—which can be hard to come by in the summertime, no matter how hard your poor air conditioner is working.So, you can imagine how surprised we were to learn that the answer to a good night’s sleep, even in the midst of a heatwave, could come in the form of an extra piece of clothing.
Now, before you get too worked up, don’t worry: we’re not about to suggest putting any additional items on your body. We’re not crazy! But we’d by lying if we said that a brilliant tip from Apartment Therapy didn’t have us rummaging through our sock drawer.
For one writer, sticking a sock filled with rice in the freezer to use as a cold pack was all it took to get her sleeping soundly through the sweltering heat. How? Well, frozen rice socks have two important qualities that traditional ice packs do not: a soft fabric buffer and the ability to form around you as you sleep. It's like a DIY heating pad, but reversed!

- Isolated Nation
In a world where online communication and globalization have broken down international barriers, North Korea stands alone as unusually isolated. The 24 million or so residents of the country live under a familial dictatorship that frequently threatens attacks against South Korea and its ally, the United States.
Amid this brinksmanship, North Korea remains remarkably shut off from the rest of the world. The Korean peninsula has long been a battlefield for the world powers nearby. Japan controlled Korea (then one nation), until the end of World War II; after Japan's surrender, the United States and Soviet Union sliced the country along the 38th parallel, with the United States administering the south and the Soviet Union controlling the north.
This division became permanent after the United Nations failed to negotiate a reunification in 1948. The first president of North Korea, Kim Il Sung, declared a policy of "self-reliance," essentially shutting the nation off diplomatically and economically from the rest of the world.
It's a philosophy called iuche, or self-mastery. The idea is that the North Korean people must rely on themselves only. This philosophy, according to Kim Il Sung, required North Korea to maintain political and economic independence (even in the face of famine in the 1990s) and to create a strong national defense system.
Man totals $300k car one day after buying it
(UPI) -- Virginia man on Saturday totaled a $300,000 car one day after he bought it, police said.The Fairfax County Police Department said a man driving a McLaren 720S and crashed into a tree because he was speeding.
The driver, who was not named by police, suffered only non-life threatening injuries.
"Purchased Friday. Totaled Saturday. This McLaren 720S, costing around $300,000, was destroyed today in Great Falls because of speed," police said. "The driver was taken to the hospital with thankfully only non-life threatening injuries. A reminder to slow down, or it could cost you."
The McLaren 720s is a luxury sportscar that was given a 5-star rating by Autocar.

St. Rocco's Inspirational Quilt
The Women’s Altar and Rosary Society of St. Rocco’s Catholic Church in Martins Creek have designed and pieced an “Inspirational Quilt”.
With the guidance of Carol Smith and Antonette Rollo, the women were instructed as to the construction and steps necessary to accomplish the project. Blocks of spiritual sayings are combined with pieced sections to complete the work of art. The work sessions also proved to be a source of bonding and good will among the many women who assisted. The quilt will be chanced off at St. Rocco’s Annual Festival on August 9th, 10th, & 11th.

On this day in 1940, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who first took office in 1933 as America’s 32nd president, is nominated for an unprecedentedthird term. Roosevelt, a Democrat, would eventually be elected to a record four terms in office, the only U.S. president to serve more than two terms.
Roosevelt was born January 30, 1882, in Hyde Park, New York, and went on to serve as a New York state senator from 1911 to 1913, assistant secretary of the Navy from 1913 to 1920 and governor of New York from 1929 to 1932. In 1932, he defeated incumbent Herbert Hoover to be elected president for the first time. During his first term, Roosevelt enacted his New Deal social programs, which were aimed at lifting America out of the Great Depression. In 1936, he won his second term in office by defeating Kansas governor Alf Landon in a landslide.

It has happened every year for over 50 years and will happen again this year. Plan now to sleep early, medicate your dogs, but most importantly come and enjoy the entire Big Time Celebration. By the way it is the 125 year of Big Time so the show will be the biggest yet.

Celebrating the creativity, heritage, and traditions of the seven Celtic nations, Celtic Cultural Alliance announces its annual Celtic Poetry Contest for writers of all ages. Original works for the poems should reflect the Celtic culture, arts, history or literature. Personal anecdotes of family memories or travelling experiences are also encouraged.
Poems must be original in any style or length with one author. The three brackets are: 3rd through 6th grades, 7th through 12th grades, and adult. The entries must be neatly written or typed. The top poets in each category will be given a certificate and small prize and will be invited to read their poems on the stage at Celtic Heritage Hollow on September 30, 2018.

No business or commercial shredding will be allowed. Accepted items are financial statements, medical records, investment transactions, employee payvstubs, Social Security or credit card numbers, pre-approved credit card applications, legal documents, tax forms, accounting files, cancelled checks, credit reward or bonus cards. No ring binders, plastic sheet protectors or coverings and no metal strips. DO NOT BRING junk mail, greeting cards, postcards, magazines, fliers, etc. These go in a recycling bin.

Martin & Co. and Sellersville Theatre, on Saturday, September 29, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at the Celtic Heritage Hollow Stage during the 31st Celtic Classic Highland Games and Festival. The contest is open to all amateur songwriters.
Original songs must have lyrics and be performed in person on the guitar. Songs will be judged on lyrics, melody and performance by professional musicians Graham Wright of the Glengarry Bhoys, Gerry Timlin and Seamus Kennedy. The contestant with the highest score will be awarded one Martin Guitar DRSG with case and strings along with the opportunity to audition as the opening act for a performance at the Sellersville Theatre.
