Steve Barron
It has been an honor to serve the citizens of Northampton County since taking office in 2007. I have saved the taxpayers for Northampton County millions and have proven to be a reliable check over the executive branch of government. I will continue to be a watchdog over your money. I will make sure that all tax dollars spent by any administration is done so properly and within the laws of Northampton County. With a comprehensive audit schedule, I will continue to monitor cash handling offices and funds on a regular basis to make sure the county assets are safe and being spent in the best interest of the taxpayers of Northampton County.
I will continue to employ the best technology and resources available to fight fraud and waste. Through continuous auditing, working with our external auditors and allowing a safe environment for citizens and employees to report possible fraud and waste we will be able to limit the county's risk and assure that money is spent on the services the taxpayers expect. I will work to assure the county is compliance with all auditing standards as well as all federal, state and local laws. I will also assure that the staff of the controller's office maintains all standards of auditor independence so we continue to be awarded the highest praises during our peer review.
I will continue to build relationships with other branches of County Government and the community so that the resources of the controller's office can be accessed for the greater good of the community. The county has provided a high level of service when it comes to the children, elderly and afflicted of Northampton County. I plan to make sure those services are delivered efficiently. I will continue to listen to the citizens of the county and preserve and support vital county services. Gracedale is a legacy that we owe to future generations of Northampton County residents. I will always oppose the sale of this most valuable of Northampton County assets.
I am also a member of several community organizations including the Northampton County Genealogical and Historical Society, South Bethlehem Historical Society, the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, the Lehigh Valley Chapter of the ACFE and the National Sokols. I currently reside in Bethlehem, PA with my wife Erin, daughters Emma and Delaney, and dogs Charles and Linus.

HEALTH.........
Live Longer, Live Better
(BPT) - Olives and olive oil, fresh vegetables and fruit, whole grains, nuts, legumes, fresh fish and seafood, lean meats, cheese and yogurt and red wine. This may sound like the grocery list for a delicious dinner party (and you wouldn’t be wrong), but these foods are also the staple components of the Mediterranean diet.
A 2013 observational study conducted by Harvard University and published in the New England Journal of Medicine suggests that eating a diet consisting of foods that align with the Mediterranean diet, such as olives and olive oil, are associated with promoting longevity. Data from the study, which looked at female nurses of predominantly European ancestry, suggests that women who adhere to the Mediterranean diet had longer telomeres in their blood cells. Telomeres are DNA sequences that get short when cells divide, so their length is thought to be a measure of a cell’s aging. Because the study design precluded researchers from establishing a temporal association between dietary habits and telomere length; the single-measure test used prevented the estimation of associations between the Mediterranean diet and telomere attrition rate in addition to the telomere dynamics possibly differing among other ethnicities.
California Ripe Olives, a delicious part of the Mediterranean diet
Olives, such as California Ripe Olives, are an essential part of the Mediterranean diet and are as good for you as they taste. Their unique flavor, texture and color make them one of the most versatile ingredients in the pantry, and make a perfect addition to a variety of dishes from appetizers to entrees.
California Ripe Olives are picked and canned at their peak, making them a delicious way to get a variety of nutrients such as vitamin A (60 IU per serving), vitamin E (.25mg per serving), iron (.49mg per serving) and fiber (.5 grams per serving). Olives, much like olive oil, contain monounsaturated fat – the good fat – which is associated with increased longevity, decreased risk of heart disease, reduced risk of chronic disease, lower blood pressure, and improved brain function.
Enjoy a taste of the Mediterranean with an al fresco California-grown Mediterranean feast
As you’re looking for unique ways to entertain this summer consider hosting a Mediterranean feast, California style!
Here are a few tips to put together a delicious Mediterranean-inspired spread that everyone will love, whether or not they follow the Mediterranean diet.
*Keep it rustic, yet elegant by serving dishes on wooden boards and serving platters family-style. Select earth-toned linens and decorate the table food like lemons, rosemary and other whole fruits and vegetables for a casual and culinary-focused look.
*Build your meal around the freshest ingredients you can find. Look for fresh in-season fruits like other California crops such as figs, grapes, squash and other fruits and vegetables.
*Create a Mediterranean-inspired/California Grown cheese board with an array of cheeses, nuts and olives. For a simple Mediterranean-twist on marinated olives, combine black ripe olives with olive oil, lemon zest and herbs.
*Pair freshly grilled fish with a simple tapenade made with black ripe olives, olive oil, garlic and roasted red bell peppers for savory Mediterranean flair.

Residents Warned Not To Take
Railroad Track Selfies
Network Rail officials said the CCTV camera at the Matlock Bath station in Derbyshire recorded eight separate incidents of "dangerous behavior" in a single day Aug. 30.
The incidents included people taking selfies on the tracks, parents taking pictures of kids sitting on the tracks and a group of people spending more than eight minutes chatting while standing in the path used by trains.
"Trains can come from either direction at any time and being distracted by chatting, texting or taking photographs while using the crossing significantly increases the risk of an incident," said Martin Brown, operations risk adviser for Network Rail.
"Level crossings in rural, picturesque settings such as Matlock may look like good opportunities for a photo but the railway is not a playground," Brown said.
Inspector Eddie Carlin of the British Transport Police said patrols have been increased in the area to reduce dangerous behavior.

Ask The Doc........
Technology can be wonderful!
garywilliamsdmd.com
I know sometimes new technologies can be frustrating and leave us questioning whether “progress” is worth the hassle. But, that is not the case with intra-oral digital scanners. We have been using our digital scanner at Family Dental Care now for 3 months, and the results are amazing.
Sure, it’s pretty “cool” technology, and it has been totally comfortable for patients. No gagging going on! And the turn around time is much shorter. All of these are pluses, but here is the real benefit… the accuracy and fit of what we are making.
I can comfortably predict a great fit of your new crowns, splints, Invisalign aligners, retainers, and anything else we scan for. That makes it worthwhile.
It’s one thing to restore your mouth to health, but I want, you want, and you deserve to rest assured that what is placed in your mouth is the best possible fit known to dentistry.
Digital scanning is here to stay at Family Dental Care. Feel free to ask us about our scanner. Garywilliamsdmd.com.
