Slaters in title game after close win.....
Bangor's Seth Benton (11) calmy made a pair of free throws with 29 seconds left in the final period to give the Slaters their first lead since early in the final period and Isaiah Jones later grabbed a loose ball and went the distance for a lay up to give Bangor a 43-39 lead with three seconds left.. A Crusader three-pointer at the buzzer made the final 43-42. Bangor will now play Southern Lehigh at Easton Middle School for the league championship, Friday at 8:00pm. The Slaters led most of the game before falling behind for most of the final quarter after long cold stretch and an inspired Crusader team. Sharon Nunn, Still Lifes and Other Works
Sharon Nunn started painting about the age of 8 under the guidance of her uncle Nic Vander Krats in North Brunswick, New Jersey. He was both a painter and a landscape designer and he taught her the tools of form, line, color and light and nurtured her natural talent. She began her work in both oil and acrylic and she began drawing in charcoal.
She was additionally influenced by her aunt Louise who instilled in her a love of flowers. This love of flowers has continued to this day in both her painting and gardening. She was praised in both elementary and high school by her art class teachers and continued to develop her skills. Upon graduating high school and a subsequent move to Pennsylvania, she began to work with wooden items and produced intricate bird house paintings, pumpkin paintings, Christmas pieces and wedding box work. The wedding boxes were approximately 18x12x16 and were made by hand by a friend of hers. Used the client's idea and her intense precision led to an artist's version of everyday scenes. It should be noted that no stencils were used and all of her work is free hand. She continued her work in both oils and acrylics. Sharon produced a mural at the Farmers Basket in Stroudsburg and it is still there today. It is a detail, approximately 8 feet high, of a sunflower and its leaves—this flower is her signature image. When she moved to Mt. Bethel, Sharon discovered Totts Gap Arts Institute and has taken classes in both acrylic and oil ever since. Under Jim Gloria's direction and encouragement, her painting took on an abstract feel and she continues to produce such work. Her subsequent diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease did not dampen her passion for painting and she continues to produce insightful pieces. An exhibit of Sharon’s work will be on display at By The Dozen Family Restaurant & Inn from Saturday, February 25, 2017 through March 12, 2017. On this day in 1923, in Thebes, Egypt, English archaeologist Howard Carter enters the sealed burial chamber of the ancient Egyptian ruler King Tutankhamen. Because the ancient Egyptians saw their pharaohs as gods, they carefully preserved their bodies after death, burying them in elaborate tombs containing rich treasures to accompany the rulers into the afterlife. In the 19th century, archaeologists from all over the world flocked to Egypt, where they uncovered a number of these tombs. Many had long ago been broken into by robbers and stripped of their riches.
In November 1922, the wait paid off, when Carter’s team found steps hidden in the debris near the entrance of another tomb. The steps led to an ancient sealed doorway bearing the name Tutankhamen. When Carter and Lord Carnarvon entered the tomb’s interior chambers on November 26, they were thrilled to find it virtually intact, with its treasures untouched after more than 3,000 years. The men began exploring the four rooms of the tomb, and on February 16, 1923, under the watchful eyes of a number of important officials, Carter opened the door to the last chamber. Jamilah Lemieux, a former senior editor at Ebony magazine and current vice president of news and men’s programming at Interactive One, an online news platform, will speak at Northampton Community College (NCC) on Thursday, February 16, at 11:00 a.m., as part of the College’s observation of Black History Month. The talk is titled The Revolution Will Not Be Televised, but It Might Be Live-Streamed.

Season three began December 28 at the Hanover nest. The cameras and audio equipment installed for the 2016 season continue to provide excellent views and audio of this eagle family. The live stream began December 17, 2016 shortly after the installation of two new cameras and audio equipment. Eggs were laid on February 18 and 21. March 28 one of the eggs hatched; the nestling died two days later, perhaps injured by a branch being moved in the nest. The other egg never hatched and remained n the nest until May 23 when one of the adults removed the remnants from the nest. Hanover is located in south-central PA about five miles from the Mason-Dixon line. NCC to Stage Collision Northampton Community College (NCC) will stage a production of Collision, a play by Lyle Kessler, in which the lives of three students, a professor and a stranger collide.

Can You Believe It?Funeral home offers drive through viewings
(UPI) -- A Tennessee funeral home is drawing in bereaved customers by offering an unusual service -- drive-through viewings. Ryan Bernard, who opened the R. Bernard funeral home in Memphis with his family at the end of January, said the service is designed to be more convenient for families who are already facing the burden of losing a loved one.
"I got the idea from a funeral home out in California," Bernard told WHBQ-TV. "I thought it was something new. I thought it would be neat to add to the Memphis area. Just to add something unique to our funeral home." Bernard said the drive-through viewings are offered for no extra charge to families who purchase a funeral package. "Say a family has a visitation from 4 to 6. We would put their loved one in the drive-thru viewing area say around 1 o'clock and they will have a drive-thru viewing from 1 to 2:30," Bernard told WATN-TV. He said four families have used the drive-through option so far, and all of the feedback has been positive. "We've been getting rave reviews. We've had people actually just pull up drive-thru just had a curiosity they didn't even know the person who passed," he said. Bernard said guests pull up to a window, where they sign in on an iPad and then receive up to three minutes of viewing time. "Some people, they don't want to deal with the hassle, the chaos of a large funeral; parking, especially with inclement weather, so that was an extra convenience for those," Bernard said. "You'll be surprised how many people who just can't stomach coming into a funeral home. They're scared so it offers convenience to those," Bernard said. (BPT) - Warmer temperatures, budding trees and blooming flowers are all lovely parts of spring, but what you really look forward to is the start of vacation planning season! Deciding where to go and what to see, making arrangements and planning your wardrobe are all exciting aspects of summer vacation planning. But before you pack up to leave on your getaway, be sure to take care of the most important asset you'll be leaving at home - your home itself.
"Before going away on vacation, homeowners do a lot of things to prepare for the security and safety of their home while away, including stopping the mail, powering down electronics and turning off water and gas," says Emily Lewicki, brand manager with Coleman Heating and Air Conditioning. "Additionally, it is important to keep in mind that a home's temperature needs to be monitored, which can easily be done by using a programmable thermostat." While you're savoring the fun of your vacation planning, here are seven steps you also should take to prepare your home to remain secure while you're away: 1. Stop the mail. Home safety experts agree: a stuffed mailbox is a sign of an empty home. The United States Postal Service allows you to request a vacation hold on your mail up to 30 days before your departure date. Go to holdmail.usps.com to see if this service is available in your area. You should also put newspaper and package delivery on hold, too, as uncollected newspapers or parcels in front of your house could also alert others that you're not home. 2. Turn off water and gas. If a water or gas leak occurs while you're not there to address it, the emergency could cause significant damage to your home. You can reduce risks by turning off water flow to appliances like the clothes washer. To conserve energy and money, you can also turn off the gas flow to your water heater. 3. Adjust the thermostat. You don't need to spend money to heat or cool your home to a comfortable level when you're not there to enjoy it. Turn down the thermostat, but don't turn your HVAC system completely off. Extreme temperatures can harm your home and its contents. A programmable thermostat can take care of temperature adjustments for you while you're away. If you don't already have a programmable thermostat, consider installing a model like Coleman's Hx(TM) thermostat. The touch-screen interface makes it easy to program the system, plus a free downloadable app allows you to control the thermostat from your smartphone, no matter where you travel. Just be sure to leave your internet connection active at home so your thermostat can communicate with the app while you're away. 4. Put lights on timers or sensors. A well-lit home looks lived in and is less appealing to burglars. Put outside lights on sensors so they'll turn on when the sun goes down. Use timers to turn interior lights on and off at appropriate times. 5. Prep your kitchen. Go through the refrigerator and pantry and throw away any food that could go bad while you're away. No one wants to come home to smelly, spoiled food. Empty the trash and arrange for a neighbor to put the trash at the curb on your scheduled pickup day. Unplug all small appliances like the coffee maker, toaster ovens, food processors, etc. 6. Power down electronic devices. Items like computers, TVs and phone chargers all draw power while plugged in, even if they're not switched on. Turn off and unplug electronic devices to reduce power usage in the house and protect electronics from power surges while you're away. 7. Secure the garage. This is especially important if your home has an attached garage with direct access into your home. Most garage doors have a simple bolt lock that can be engaged from inside to prevent the door from being raised. Remember to also lock the door from the garage into your house. BAHS Marching Band Uniform Fund Drive The Bangor Area High School Marching Band uniforms, which are modeled after Her Majesty’s Royal Welsh Guard, pay tribute to the heritage of Bangor, PA. Participants should wear waterproof boots, dress for the weather, bring snacks and bottled water. Registration is required. BAHS Drama Department Pancake Breakfast
On Saturday, February 18, from 8am to noon, at Bangor Area Middle School, the Bangor High School Drama Department will host the fourth annual pancake breakfast with the cast of “Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.” Classic characters, such as Belle, the Beast, and Mrs. Potts, will transport visitors to the French countryside as they welcome guests of all ages with music, food, and activities.
In addition to restaurant-quality food and top-notch service, patrons can take advantage of a special opportunity to have their photo taken with the princess, the beast, and the enchanted characters. After snapping a photo and filling their bellies, guests can play games and participate in other activities, all while enjoying musical performances from the cast of “Disney’s Beauty and the Beast”.

Northampton Community College (NCC) will be holding free Information sessions about its Lineworker program at 5 pm on February 13 and February 21, 2017 at Alumni Hall, Room 130 A-D, Gates Center, Bethlehem Campus, 3835 Green Pond Road, Bethlehem Township. These sessions are mandatory for anyone who would like to enroll in the program.
The session will provide students with the opportunity to meet the instructors, hear about the program and its requirements, and gain information about potential resources for financial assistance for qualified candidates.

American Cancer Society Egg Hunt
The American Cancer Society's second annual community egg hunt will be held Saturday, April 1, 2:00 pm at East Bangor Park, The egg hunt will be for ages 0 to 10. An adult egg hunt will follow. They are looking for vendors, have limited space with first come, first serve for $10. Adult Pair Egg Hunt for a five-dollar donation. Several prizes will be given out. Take a picture with the Easter bunny using your own camera for a donation. Bake sale!!! Special thanks to East Bangor Fire Company and East Bangor Park Board. The scholarship is awarded to a student who is involved in community service.
