Wind Advisory Midnight - 6pm Monday The National Weather Service in Mount Holly has issued a Wind Advisory which is in effect from midnight tonight to 6 pm Monday. Winds northwest 20 to 30 mph with gusts 40 to 50 mph. The greatest potential for high winds will be late tonight through about midday Monday. The winds will gradually weaken Monday afternoon, but strong gusts are still possible into the evening hours. Strong winds may blow down limbs, trees, and power lines. Scattered power outages are expected. Ice from the freezing rain and snow could worsen any problem with trees or power lines. Slaters Qualify for League Semis.......

PA GFWC Donates Funds For Ballistic Vests The Pen Argyl Woman’s Club donated $1000 to the Slate Belt Regional Police for the purchase of ballistic vests. This donation was made possible as part of President Anna Bet’s contribution to the community. The General Federation of Women’s Club in every state and more than a dozen countries work locally: to support the arts, preserve natural resources, advance education, promote healthy lifestyles, encourage civic involvement, and work toward world peace and understanding.
GFWC remains one of the largest and oldest nonpartisan, nondenominational, women’s volunteer service organization. The Woman’s Club of Pen Argyl meets at St Johns Lutheran Church on Westbrook Avenue in Pen Argyl every 1st Monday of the month at 7PM. They are always welcoming new members.

Eleventh Annual Scholarship
Slater Family Network is offering a $2000 scholarship for a graduating Bangor HS senior who plans on attending a trade/vocational school or college. History of the Viaduct Today at SBHC The Slate Belt Heritage Center will hold their monthly historic presentation on Sunday, February 12th @ 2:00 PM. Speaker for the afternoon will be local photographer Ernie Dietz. Mr. Dietz will be showing pictures of the Bangor “Viaduct” pre 1939 construction, during its use as a conduit span over the railroad tracks, its recent demolition and current reconstruction.
He will also speak about the materials that were and are now being used to erect the historic landmark and will reveal the little known fact about “names” that were inscribed on the top of the old side posts. These sessions are mandatory for anyone who would like to enroll in the program.
The session will provide students with the opportunity to meet the instructors, hear about the program and its requirements, and gain information about potential resources for financial assistance for qualified candidates. This hands-on non-credit course is taught by instructors with lineworker experience and has been popular since its inception since 2013. It prepares students for entry-level linework in the electrical and telecommunications industries.

Pocono Wine Trail Event Weekend Chocolate and Wine are the perfect pair to enjoy the weekend before Valentine's Day. Abraham Lincoln Born - 1809
On this day in 1809, Abraham Lincoln is born in Hodgenville, Kentucky.
Lincoln, one of America’s most admired presidents, grew up a member of a poor family in Kentucky and Indiana. He attended school for only one year, but thereafter read on his own in a continual effort to improve his mind. As an adult, he lived in Illinois and performed a variety of jobs including stints as a postmaster, surveyor and shopkeeper, before entering politics. He served in the Illinois legislature from 1834 to 1836, and then became an attorney. In 1842, Lincoln married Mary Todd; together, the pair raised four sons. Lincoln returned to politics during the 1850s, a time when the nation’s long-standing division over slavery was flaring up, particularly in new territories being added to the Union. As leader of the new Republican Party, Lincoln was considered politically moderate, even on the issue of slavery. He advocated the restriction of slavery to the states in which it already existed and described the practice in a letter as a minor issue as late as 1854. In an 1858 senatorial race, as secessionist sentiment brewed among the southern states, he warned, a house divided against itself cannot stand. He did not win the Senate seat but earned national recognition as a strong political force. Lincoln’s inspiring oratory soothed a populace anxious about southern states’ secessionist threats and boosted his popularity. Bald Eagle Nest Cam in Hanover, PA - Live Click On Photo To See Nest

Season three began December 28 at the Hanover nest. The cameras and audio equipment installed for the 2016 season continue to provide excellent views and audio of this eagle family. The live stream began December 17, 2016 shortly after the installation of two new cameras and audio equipment. Eggs were laid on February 18 and 21. March 28 one of the eggs hatched; the nestling died two days later, perhaps injured by a branch being moved in the nest. The other egg never hatched and remained n the nest until May 23 when one of the adults removed the remnants from the nest. Hanover is located in south-central PA about five miles from the Mason-Dixon line. In Case You Missed It......

Can You Believe It?Florida man rescues bald eagle from alligator's mouth
Feb. 10 (UPI) -- A Florida man helped rescue a bald eagle that was being attacked by an alligator because he "couldn't watch America's symbol die."
David Anderson hopped into a pond in the back of his Parrish home to rescue the eagle from the gator's clutches while a neighbor called Justin Matthews of Matthews Wildlife Rescue for help. "David an older guy that is on chemo waded in the water and pulled the eagle from the gators mouth! Is that crazy or what?" Matthews wrote in a Facebook post. "He said he couldn't watch America's symbol die." Anderson said he risked his own safety to go into the water and rescue the struggling eagle due to its symbolic relevance. "It's our bald eagle. It's our treasure," he told Fox 13. "It stands for who we are and what we are." Matthews said the eagle had a mate in a nearby nest, which he drove by while delivering the wounded raptor to Save Our Seabirds. The eagle's legs had been rendered immobile after the attack and he was ultimately euthanized by a veterinarian in Osprey. "I knew that it wouldn't make it." Matthews said. BAHS Marching Band Uniform Fund Drive The Bangor Area High School Marching Band uniforms, which are modeled after Her Majesty’s Royal Welsh Guard, pay tribute to the heritage of Bangor, PA. After years of normal wear and tear, the uniforms must be replaced. The new uniforms will continue to use the same style.

Northampton Community College (NCC) will stage a production of Collision, a play by Lyle Kessler, in which the lives of three students, a professor and a stranger collide.
Performances will take place Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Feb. 16, 17 and 18 at 7:30 p.m. in the Lipkin Theatre, Kopecek Hall, Bethlehem Campus, 3835 Green Pond Road, Bethlehem Township.

Jamilah Lemieux, a former senior editor at Ebony magazine and current vice president of news and men’s programming at Interactive One, an online news platform, will speak at Northampton Community College (NCC) on Thursday, February 16, at 11:00 a.m., as part of the College’s observation of Black History Month. The talk is titled The Revolution Will Not Be Televised, but It Might Be Live-Streamed.
Also included on February 16 will be social justice performances by NCC students, starting at 9:30 a.m. and a faculty panel discussion at 1:30 p.m.

Explore Jacobsburg at night! We will learn about what animals might be found in the evening and how they survive cold winter nights. Then we’ll put on warm layers and snowshoes to go outside and experience a snowy winter night. Snowshoes and trekking poles will be provided. If we don’t get any snow then we will hike in our boots. The hike will be about half a mile. Wear waterproof boots and dress for the weather. Bring a flashlight or headlamp. Registration is required. You will be asked to specify your age and weight range when registering to determine what size snowshoe you will need. If you plan to bring your own snowshoes note that on your registration so we can offer the equipment to additional families.

- Sunday, February 19 from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. 11 Year Olds will be evaluated from 11:00 am to 12:45 pm, 12 Year Olds will be evaluated from 1:00 pm to 2:45 pm.

Tracking with Snowshoes
Saturday, February 18, 10:00 AM – 12 noon
Enjoy a trek through the snow in snowshoes looking for animal tracks and signs. Snowshoes and trekking poles will be provided. If we don’t get any snow we’ll hike in our boots. Participants should wear waterproof boots, dress for the weather, bring snacks and bottled water. Registration is required. You will be asked to specify your age and weight range when registering to determine what size snowshoe you will need.

BAHS Drama Department Pancake Breakfast
On Saturday, February 18, from 8am to noon, at Bangor Area Middle School, the Bangor High School Drama Department will host the fourth annual pancake breakfast with the cast of “Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.” Classic characters, such as Belle, the Beast, and Mrs. Potts, will transport visitors to the French countryside as they welcome guests of all ages with music, food, and activities.
In addition to restaurant-quality food and top-notch service, patrons can take advantage of a special opportunity to have their photo taken with the princess, the beast, and the enchanted characters. After snapping a photo and filling their bellies, guests can play games and participate in other activities, all while enjoying musical performances from the cast of “Disney’s Beauty and the Beast”.
The breakfast will raise funds for the high school musical production of “Disney’s Beauty and the Beast”. Performance dates are: March 3, 4 & 5, 2017. NCC Lineworker Info Session
Northampton Community College (NCC) will be holding free Information sessions about its Lineworker program at 5 pm on February 13 and February 21, 2017 at Alumni Hall, Room 130 A-D, Gates Center, Bethlehem Campus, 3835 Green Pond Road, Bethlehem Township. These sessions are mandatory for anyone who would like to enroll in the program.
The session will provide students with the opportunity to meet the instructors, hear about the program and its requirements, and gain information about potential resources for financial assistance for qualified candidates.
This hands-on non-credit course is taught by instructors with lineworker experience and has been popular since its inception since 2013. It prepares students for entry-level linework in the electrical and telecommunications industries.

The Tdap vaccine shots are available to individuals of all ages who are uninsured or underinsured. This service is not available to anyone with Medicare Part D or insurance that already covers the vaccination.

Buzzer, a play by Tracey Scott Wilson, will be staged in early March at the Norman R. Roberts Lab Theatre, Kopecek Hall, Northampton Community College (NCC), 3835 Green Pond Road, Bethlehem Township. Performances will take place Thursday, March 2; Friday, March 3; Friday, March 4; and Monday, March 6 at 7:30 p.m. and on Saturday, March 5 at 3:00 p.m.
The play examines urban gentrification through an interracial couple’s relationship as they move to the inner city.

American Cancer Society Egg Hunt
The American Cancer Society's second annual community egg hunt will be held Saturday, April 1, 2:00 pm at East Bangor Park, The egg hunt will be for ages 0 to 10. An adult egg hunt will follow. They are looking for vendors, have limited space with first come, first serve for $10. Adult Pair Egg Hunt for a five-dollar donation. Several prizes will be given out. The 7th Annual “912” Scholarship is for a graduating Bangor HS senior who plans on attending a technical school or college. The scholarship is awarded to a well rounded student with interests in academics, outdoor sporting activities such as hunting, fishing, hiking and an enthusiasm for the outdoors. The student must possess a giving spirit exemplified through community service and love for family and friends. The application process is being facilitated by Slater Family Network. Applications are in the HS Guidance office, Slater Family Network office or on the school district website front page under 2017 Scholarships or under Slater Family Network.

Allentown, PA: The Lehigh Valley Steelhawks are happy to announce their 2017 National Arena League (NAL) schedule. Featuring six home and six away games, the Steelhawks season opens at home on Sunday, March 19 th at 4pm against the expansion Dayton Wolfpack.
“After much anticipation are thrilled to be able to release our 2017 league schedule today,” stated Steelhawks General Manager Mike Clark. “The National Arena League is ready to kickoff its inaugural season, and we can’t wait to start our seventh year of play. Week one can’t come soon enough, and we look forward to seeing the Steelhawks faithful out in full force this season inside the PPL Center.” Additional schedule highlights include a Week Three matchup where the team will be making the long trip to Florida to take on the Jacksonville Sharks, former members of the AFL. Week Four brings a familiar opponent to the Valley; the Columbus Lions will be in the Hawks Nest for the Steelhawks second home game on April 9th. The Steelhawks closest rivals this year will be the Dayton (Ohio) Wolfpack and the High Country (North Carolina) Grizzlies, each of whom appear on Lehigh Valley’s schedule multiple times; LV faces Dayton four times – two home, two away, and High Country three times – one home, two away.
