Pack 34 Blue and Gold Banquet
The Giroux Award was presented to seven boys this year at the annual Blue and Gold Banquet held by Cub Pack 34. To receive the Giroux award each boy must join from tiger cub and work all the way through to earn their arrow of light award. Scott Giroux was a beloved scout leader with Pack 34 who passed away suddenly and this award is made in his honor. Boys who received this award Saturday were Logan Dehart, Jonathan Hauspurg, Ethan Holland, Andrew Kondisko, Jack McCabe, Jack Scherer and Austin Shoup. Ten boys received their Arrow of Light Award tonight with nine boys crossing over into the Troop 34 and one boy crossing over into Troop 74. Those dedicated boys are Auston Shoup, Eddie Austin, Logan Dehart, Jonathan Hauspurg, Ethan Holland, Andrew Kondisko, Jack McCabe, Jack Scherer, Ben Spearmint and Jason Yetter. Four boys earned the Super Achiever Award, they were: Andrew Kondisko, Jack McCabe, Jack Scherer, and Austin Shoup.
Recovery Day at Clean Slateby Jennifer Trinkley
While battling addiction in recovery how do you spend St. Patrick’s Day weekend, which for most is spent celebrating with a green beer in hand? For the past 11 years, however, you could have spent the day at Recovery Day with A Clean Slate recovery Center. Jana Morris, executive director of Recovery Revolutions and A Clean Slate, started this day to provide a safe and sober place for people in recovery during this holiday. She says during the first Recovery Day, which happened to be the day after a huge snow storm, twelve speakers were scheduled to talk but only half were able to make it. But by some grace, and maybe some Irish luck, six other speakers found their way to the event. The program is run to help anyone battling addiction find ways to continue on their path to staying in recovery. A Clean Slate offers resume building, computers, and printers. This year they were even able to add some tax preparation materials Classes at A Clean Slate. They will be offering yoga classes on Tuesdays from 5-6pm. Classes are forming now and are limited to 8 individuals, so space is on a first-come first-serve basis, $10 for 6 weeks of class. The program is also putting together a production of A Wrinkle in Time, with open auditions next Saturday, March 25, 2017. They plan on having opening night in either May or June. Speaker Patty Buranowski The first speaker of this year’s Recovery Day was Patty Buranowski who has been with them for a few months now, although she isn’t new to the field. She began her career in November, 1989 as an Administrative Assistant for SLATS in Bethlehem. She has also worked at St. Luke’s Treatment, Treatment Trends and has been doing individual meetings for about seven years. Addiction: Choice or Disease Her topic Saturday was Addiction 101: What it’s all about ? She opened her presentation with asking everyone whether they believe addiction is a choice or a disease? What's your opinion? She then provided some amazing statistics that show how, believe it or not, the addictions that affect people are truly a disease not a choice. We all know someone who has battled addiction, no matter what type, gambling, alcoholism, drug use, or overeating. Compulsive behaviors are not just a choice someone woke up one day and said, “well that’s it I’ve decided I'm going to be an addict today.” She also talked about how sometimes just having someone from the outside help you look at your addiction and behavior can help you focus on the bigger picture Addiction Can Be Unlearned. Unhealthy learned behaviors, whether they be gambling, alcoholism, or drug use CAN be UNLEARNED, and healthy behaviors can be learned. At Recovery Revolutions and A Clean Slate its all about Hope and knowing that there is always some to be found. Programs Available There are weekly 12-step programs also available at the facilities which are run independently. Bald Eagle Nest Cam in Hanover, PA - Live Click On Photo To See Nest

Season three began December 28 at the Hanover nest. The cameras and audio equipment installed for the 2016 season continue to provide excellent views and audio of this eagle family. The live stream began December 17, 2016 shortly after the installation of two new cameras and audio equipment. Eggs were laid on February 18 and 21. March 28 one of the eggs hatched; the nestling died two days later, perhaps injured by a branch being moved in the nest. The other egg never hatched and remained n the nest until May 23 when one of the adults removed the remnants from the nest. Hanover is located in south-central PA about five miles from the Mason-Dixon line.

On this day in 1965, President Lyndon B. Johnson notifies Alabama’s Governor George Wallace that he will use federal authority to call up the Alabama National Guard in order to supervise a planned civil rights march from Selma to Montgomery.
After an Alabama federal judge ruled on March 18 that a third march could go ahead, President Johnson and his advisers worked quickly to find a way to ensure the safety of King and his demonstrators on their way from Selma to Montgomery. Furious, Johnson told Attorney General Nicholas Katzenbach to write a press release stating that because Wallace refused to use the 10,000 available guardsmen to preserve order in his state, Johnson himself was calling the guard up and giving them all necessary support. Several days later, 50,000 marchers followed King some 54 miles, under the watchful eyes of state and federal troops. Arriving safely in Montgomery on March 25, they watched King deliver his famous “How Long, Not Long” speech from the steps of the Capitol building. The clash between Johnson and Wallace–and Johnson’s decisive action–was an important turning point in the civil rights movement. If you are more adventurous, networks of trails run through many parks and forests, up hillsides and down to lowland creek areas, providing many different settings to see spring wildflowers like the broad-leaved skunk cabbage, the yellow-flowered trout lily, and other varieties of foliage. BHS Class of 1986 Scholarship A memorial scholarship was established in 1997 by the Bangor Area High School Class of 1986 to honor the memory of deceased classmates. It is named in Gary Moffett's honor because he not only served as Class Treasurer, but he also touched the lives of all who had the privilege to know him. They have since dedicated this memorial scholarship to recognize other classmates who have passed in recent years: David Pritchard, Cherry Oyer Klinger, Frank Lisovich, Melissa Fox Niceforo, and Kelly Cory.
A scholarship award of $500.00 will continue to be presented annually to a member of the graduating senior class at Bangor High School who best exemplifies the qualities which Gary embodied -- leadership, friendship, service, character, and scholastic achievement. The recipient is chosen by Gary's wonderful and loving family, and is announced during Commencement. Musical Instrument Collection Drive The BAHS Alumni Association is running a drive to collect used musical instruments to be donated to Bangor’s elementary band program. The instruments will be used as loaners for students who cannot afford to buy or rent them. They will take them regardless of their condition. NCC Cooking Demo and Tasting with Alumni
Seeing is believing, but tasting is, too! Northampton Community College culinary arts alumni will share tips as they prepare delicious dishes at the Robert C. Wood Chef-in-Residence spring program on Monday, March 27 at 6:00 p.m. in Lipkin Theatre, Kopecek Hall, Bethlehem Campus, 3835 Green Pond Road, Bethlehem Township.
Dishes prepared will include Middle Eastern curry tuna and scallop, red crimson lentils, duck rillette, cereal milk panna cotta, and other items. Audience members will get a taste of each dish.
The chefs will include Shawn Doyle of Savory Grill, Dan Goulet of Lords Country Club, Tyler Baxter of Emeril’s Chophouse, and Kelly Stem of Hampton Winds.
The event is open to the public. Admission costs $5 per person. Tickets will be sold at the door, but advance reservations will also be taken. Proceeds will benefit the College’s culinary arts and hospitality management programs.

The chefs will include Shawn Doyle of Savory Grill, Dan Goulet of Lords Country Club, Tyler Baxter of Emeril’s Chophouse, and Kelly Stem of Hampton Winds.
The event is open to the public. Admission costs $5 per person. Tickets will be sold at the door, but advance reservations will also be taken. Proceeds will benefit the College’s culinary arts and hospitality management programs.

BMCL Night at Wendy's
The Blue Mountain Community Library will be holding a “Library Night at Wendy’s” Fundraiser on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. Wendy’s Restaurant, route 512, Wind Gap, PA will generously donate a portion of all sales that night to the Library in Pen Argyl. The fundraiser will include dine-in, take-out and drive-through orders. Please consider supporting the Blue Mountain Community Library by purchasing a meal from Wendy’s. Citizen's Police Academy
Slate Belt Regional Police Department is proud to announce their FIRST Citizen's Police Academy, which will run every Thursday, from April 6th - May 25th, 7pm-9pm. The goal of the police academy is to familiarize community members with the inner workings of their local police department and judicial system, as well as forging relationships between the department, officers and the community for which they serve. Only 20 students will be accepted into the program. Criminal background checks will be performed on applicants; those having been convicted of a felony will be disqualified. The Blue Mountain Community Library will hold its 3rd Antiques Appraisal and Silent Auction Event on Friday, April 7, 2017, from 5:30-8:00 PM at Slate Belt Nazareth Baptist Church, 1620 Church Road, Pen Argyl, PA 18072. First Round of JazzFest 2017 Events
Performing Arts Live released the first portion of the Allentown JazzFest 2017 schedule. The program has broadened to include live spoken word and conversation performances, and will introduce new musical styles into JazzFest. Consistent with prior years, a large majority of the overall schedule will be free to the public. JazzFest opens on Wednesday, May 3, and concludes Sunday, May 7, 2017.

GLOW SLATERS GLOW Neon 5K
The Bangor Elementary School PTO third annual GLOW SLATERS GLOW Neon 5K Fun Run/Walk will be held Saturday May 13 at the Bangor Area School District Complex. The 5K run begins at 9:00am, the Fun Run/Walk begins at 9:15am. There will be five splatter stations.
Registration forms are available online at www.bangorslaters.com. Adults $25, children (4-13) cost $10. Children 3 and under may enter free.
Fee includes event t-shirt, one color pack, Neon Dance Party and Tricky Tray after the run/walk.
