Benefit Softball Tournament.....
This is winning team of a benefit softball tournament, consisting of mostly former Pen Argyl baseball players, and Tanner Brescansine of Bangor holding the trophy. The softball tournament was held to raise awareness and benefit Juvenile Type 1 Diabetes foundation. It was played at Wind Gap park on Saturday. Former Pen Argyl Baseball and ESU Asst coach, Jake DeBoer and his wife set up the tournament. Their son, who has Type 1 Diabetes, threw out the ceremonial first pitch.

We also provided Homemade Pie/Ice Cream at 2 Summer Sounds Concerts at Weona Park. We especially want to thank all the businesses who helped us to raise money for the library. Gandhi begins fast in protest of caste separation 1932
On this day in 1932, in his cell at Yerovda Jail near Bombay, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi begins a hunger strike in protest of the British government’s decision to separate India’s electoral system by caste.
A leader in the Indian campaign for home rule, Gandhi worked all his life to spread his own brand of passive resistance across India and the world. By 1920, his concept of Satyagraha (or “insistence upon truth”) had made Gandhi an enormously influential figure for millions of followers. Jailed by the British government from 1922-24, he withdrew from political action for a time during the 1920s but in 1930 returned with a new civil disobedience campaign. This landed Gandhi in prison again, but only briefly, as the British made concessions to his demands and invited him to represent the Indian National Congress Party at a round-table conference in London.
After his return to India in January 1932, Gandhi wasted no time beginning another civil disobedience campaign, for which he was jailed yet again. Eight months later, Gandhi announced he was beginning a “fast unto death” in order to protest British support of a new Indian constitution, which gave the country’s lowest classes–known as “untouchables”–their own separate political representation for a period of 70 years. Bangor Women's Club to Meet
The first fall meeting for Bangor Women's Club will be held at noon on Tuesday Sep 18, 2018 at Prince of Peace Church, Johnsonsville PA.
This will be a pot luck covered dish luncheon and organization meeting for this year conducted by Carol Akam, President.
Anyone interested in learning more about this community service organization is welcome to attend. Please call Heidi at 610-599-8815 for registration and information.
The first fund raising activity for the club will be a bake sale on Fri Sep 28 and Sat Sep 29 outside Ace Hardware in the Capital Plaza. Homemade baked goodies will be for sale from 9 am to 3 pm. The funds raised are used for scholarship money and to support the Bangor Public Library.
Looking forward to seeing all current members and some new faces joining the group.

Despite being discovered in Pennsylvania nearly 50 years ago, questions remain about chronic wasting disease (CWD), which affects all species of deer, elk and moose and is fatal to all of them.
On Wednesday, Sept. 19, Rep. Marcia Hahn will be hosting a Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) seminar from 6:30-8 p.m. at the East Bath Rod and Gun Club, 7905 Township Line Road in Bath. The guest speaker will be Wayne Laroche, special assistant for CWD response with the Pennsylvania Game Commission.
Seating is limited and advance registration is required. If you are interested in attending, please call my district office at (610) 746-2100.

The Friends of the Bangor Public Library will hold a fundraiser on Thursday, September 27th at the Broadway Pub, Bangor Pa. The Pub will donate 10% of food sales to the Library for that day. Local Game Warden Brad Kreider will speak about what is being done to help control the spread of Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) in Pennsylvania and what you can do to help. CWD has been found in white-tailed deer populations in the state and is spreading. It is a fatal disease in the same family as Mad Cow Disease in cattle. This program will provide important information about what is being done and the roles that hunters and landowners can play in preventing the spread of this disease. Registration is required.

Celtic Cultural Alliance will be hosting a songwriting competition, sponsored by C.F. Martin & Co. and Sellersville Theatre, on Saturday, September 29, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at the Celtic Heritage Hollow Stage during the 31st Celtic Classic Highland Games and Festival. The contest is open to all amateur songwriters.
Original songs must have lyrics and be performed in person on the guitar. Songs will be judged on lyrics, melody and performance by professional musicians Graham Wright of the Glengarry Bhoys, Gerry Timlin and Seamus Kennedy. The contestant with the highest score will be awarded one Martin Guitar DRSG with case and strings along with the opportunity to audition as the opening act for a performance at the Sellersville Theatre.
