             Freeze/Frost Unlikely for Slate Belt
We could see the first freeze of the season for some of our area. There are, however, a few unknowns that could have an impact on how widespread the freeze will be. First, winds should remain near or above 10 mph. As a result, we likely won`t see much in the way of a frost.
Freezing conditions look to be most likely in the southern Poconos where they have issued a freeze warning. For far NW NJ, confidence is lower, so they have issued a freeze watch for Sussex County. For the rest of NW NJ, Lehigh Valley, and Berks County, we will likely see lows in the mid 30s, but no frost advisory at this time.

Habits that Age You

Picture
Just like death and taxes, growing older is inevitable. But aging before your time? That’s something you can control.
Turns out, many everyday habits could age you prematurely. Often, these behaviors could make you physically appear much older than your years. And that’s a big problem: An aging face is one of the most common insecurities men seek to correct cosmetically through creams, peels and Botox injections, according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. In 2016, more than seven million botulinum toxin injections, the ingredient in Botox and Dysport, were performed in men.
Sleep can help you look younger for longer, according to Zeichner. He explains that our skin cells function on a circadian rhythm, similar to the sleep-wake cycle that makes us tired at night and wakes us up in the morning. Try to clock in at least eight hours a night, he suggests. Before you plop into your bed, make sure you apply moisturizer to your entire body, since your skin can get dehydrated as you sleep. Dry, inflamed skin doesn’t function properly, limiting its ability to heal itself overnight, says Zeichner.
That donut does damage beyond your waistline. Starchy, sugary foods-like white bread, ice cream, and potato chips-can cause all sorts of problems with your face, too. That’s because they spike your blood sugar levels, which can ignite inflammation and spur acne breakouts, says Dr. Zeichner.
Before your light another cigarette, keep in mind that your lungs aren’t the only part of your body paying a price.  Smoking tobacco can make you look older, faster.
Dehydration really takes a toll on your body: muscle cramps, dizziness, and even cravings are common symptoms. But forgetting to drink water can also make your skin look older, according to ABC News' chief health and medical editor, Dr. Richard Besser.  "If you get dehydrated, your body is going to pull water from your tissues, from your skin to maintain the concentration in your blood," Besser explained to ABC. "When it does that, your eyes are going to look sunken, your skin is going to feel dryer, it's not going to be as elastic and so you will look a lot older."
You’ve probably seen before and after photos of United States presidents showing how stress has aged them. Well, according to a 2004 study, long-term stress shortens a part of our chromosomes called telomeres, the Washington Post reported at the time. These structures naturally shorten as we age. Long-term stress makes them even shorter and causes the body to age more quickly.
Of course, it’s impossible not to worry sometimes, but it becomes a problem when stressing takes over your life. Dr. Warren Willey recommends dealing with stressful situations by meditating for 10 minutes a day.

Good Boy Beer for Dogs

Picture
(UPI)  A pair of Houston bar owners who started brewing beer for their ailing canine a few years ago are now selling Good Boy Dog Beer at more than 20 locations.
Megan and Steve Long said they learned how to brew beer for dogs, which does not contain alcohol, when their Rottweiler mix, Rocky, started having digestion problems a few years ago.
The brews are called beer "because we use a lot of the same equipment a brewery does. We just skip the fermentation process," Megan Long told USA Today.
She said the beer contains all natural ingredients, including vegetables, meat and turmeric, a spice known to aid digestion in canines.
The Good Boy Dog Beer company now has products available at more than 20 dog-friendly bars and restaurants in the Houston area and they also ship their products in cans.
The beer is available in three varieties: "IPA lot in the yard," "Session...Squirrel!" and "Mailman Malt Licker."

THIS DAY IN HISTORY - October 17

Capone goes to prison  1931

On this day in 1931, gangster Al Capone is sentenced to 11 years in prison for tax evasion and fined $80,000, signaling the downfall of one of the most notorious criminals of the 1920s and 1930s.
Alphonse Gabriel Capone was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1899 to Italian immigrants.
He was expelled from school at 14, joined a gang and earned his nickname “Scarface” after being sliced across the cheek during a fight. By 1920, Capone had moved to Chicago, where he was soon helping to run crime boss Johnny Torrio’s illegal enterprises, which included alcohol-smuggling, gambling and prostitution. Torrio retired in 1925 after an attempt on his life and Capone, known for his cunning and brutality, was put in charge of the organization.
Prohibition, which outlawed the brewing and distribution of alcohol and lasted from 1920 to 1933, proved extremely lucrative for bootleggers and gangsters like Capone, who raked in millions from his underworld activities. Capone was at the top of the F.B.I.’s “Most Wanted” list by 1930, but he avoided long stints in jail until 1931 by bribing city officials, intimidating witnesses and maintaining various hideouts. He became Chicago’s crime kingpin by wiping out his competitors through a series of gangland battles and slayings, including the infamous St. Valentine’s Day Massacre in 1929, when Capone’s men gunned down seven rivals. This event helped raise Capone’s notoriety to a national level.
Flexibility for Graduation Requirements
As a way to ensure students get the most out of their educational experience, the House passed legislation this week that would remove the heavy focus on standardized testing as a requirement to graduate and instead allow students various options to show proficiency in pursuing their own career paths.
Senate Bill 1095 would provide Pennsylvania students with additional options to fulfill high school graduation requirements beyond the Keystone Exams. Students who do not score proficient on the Keystone Exams would be able to demonstrate their readiness to graduate through alternative routes.
Specifically, the bill outlines several commonsense options for assessing student performance while also giving teachers more flexibility with classroom instruction time. Some alternatives include a student’s successful completion of work-based learning programs, a service learning project, or an offer of full-time employment as evidence of post-secondary readiness.
As part of the bill, the Keystone Exam graduation requirement would be put on hold until the 2021-22 school year. The alternate graduation options in Senate Bill 1095 would take effect when that delay expires.
This legislation, which now goes back to the Senate, seeks to enhance a multi-bill package to expand career and technical education to benefit both students and employers looking to fill jobs in high-demand fields.
