Upper Mount Bethel Township has received a $200,000 grant to be used for further development of Minsi Lake Park. The money is to be used for construction of pedestrian walkways and bridges, a comfort station, a fishing pier and kayak launch; installation of lighting and utilities; ADA access and landscaping.
Northampton County has also been awarded a $75,000 grant for preparation of a Greenway and Stewardship Plan for Minsi Lake Park, Bear Swamp Park, and Tott’s Gap Corridor
The grants are administered by the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, with funding coming from the following sources:

One Final Show
On Saturday, November 24 the New Approach will hold their last show at 2:00 pm in Wind Gap Middle School. The show is titled "The Finale" a Celebration of the Life of Jean Pinto.
Members of New Approach and Little Approach will pay tribute to their "Mother" with songs from throughout the 48 years of the group's performances.
They have been practicing for this since September. Terry Toth will direct the show, the New Approach Band will play and you'll see members ranging in age from 4 to 69 years of age. A number of New Approach members started singing with Little Approach and now have children of their own singing with the kids. Two families have three generations in the show.
They would love to see a packed house as the New Approach family pays tribute to a woman was not only the founder of New Approach but someone who was loved by anyone who ever came in contact with her.
Admission to "The Finale" is free. There will be a table in the lobby for any donations you wish to make. All donations will go to St. Peter's Lutheran Church Scholarship Fund in memory of Jean Pinto since children's education was very important to her.

On Saturday, November 17 at 12:30-3:00 PM scouts will learn how to prepare for a hiking trip at Jacobsburg. We’ll go for a 3 mile hike, stopping along the way to talk about outdoor scenarios and how to prepare for them. Bring water and a snack. Wear waterproof boots and dress for the weather. Troop registrations will be accepted. Registration is required.

The Borough of Portland will be having their annual Holiday Tree Lighting on Nov. 25th at 6:30pm. Come and enjoy hot cocoa and cookies while waiting for Santa & Mrs. Claus to arrive on a Fire Truck. Kick off the Holiday Season with a message from Mayor Prator & a Holiday Blessing from our local Ministries, followed by local musicians singing holiday carols. Take a picture with Mr. & Mrs. Claus and send a letter to Santa. The Tree will be lit at 7:00pm by our Honorary Tree Lighter. Bring an ornament (plastic, non-edible) to hang on the tree. Elizabethan Age begins 1558
Queen Mary I, the monarch of England and Ireland since 1553, dies and is succeeded by her 25-year-old half-sister, Elizabeth.
The two half-sisters, both daughters of King Henry VIII, had a stormy relationship during Mary’s five-year reign. Mary, who was brought up as a Catholic, enacted pro-Catholic legislation and made efforts to restore the pope to supremacy in England. A Protestant rebellion ensued, and Queen Mary imprisoned Elizabeth, a Protestant, in the Tower of London on suspicion of complicity. After Mary’s death, Elizabeth survived several Catholic plots against her; though her ascension was greeted with approval by most of England’s lords, who were largely Protestant and hoped for greater religious tolerance under a Protestant queen. Under the early guidance of Secretary of State Sir William Cecil, Elizabeth repealed Mary’s pro-Catholic legislation, established a permanent Protestant Church of England, and encouraged the Calvinist reformers in Scotland.
In foreign affairs, Elizabeth practiced a policy of strengthening England’s Protestant allies and dividing her foes. Elizabeth was opposed by the pope, who refused to recognize her legitimacy, and by Spain, a Catholic nation that was at the height of its power. In 1588, English-Spanish rivalry led to an abortive Spanish invasion of England in which the Spanish Armada, the greatest naval force in the world at the time, was destroyed by storms and a determined English navy.

Saturday, November 17 at 10:00-11:30 AM at Jacobsburg, join other scouts as we learn about the parts of trees and how they function. We'll learn some winter tree identification and how to measure trees using basic forestry tools. This program is best for ages 7 and up. Scouts must register individually or with their family. Troop registrations will not be accepted. Registration is required.
Hiking Preparedness for Scouts
On Saturday, November 17 at 12:30-3:00 PM scouts will learn how to prepare for a hiking trip at Jacobsburg. We’ll go for a 3 mile hike, stopping along the way to talk about outdoor scenarios and how to prepare for them. Bring water and a snack. Wear waterproof boots and dress for the weather. Troop registrations will be accepted. Registration is required.

Winter Wildlife Watch
On Saturday, December 8 at 10:00 AM-3:00 PM, spend some of your Saturday watching wildlife at Jacobsburg! Our educators will have activities available at the visitor center including a morning bird walk, bird feeder making, indoor wildlife viewing area, and an afternoon hike to find traces of animals along the trails. Hot chocolate will be available all day long. Join us for one of the organized adventures, choose your own, or enjoy the activities at the visitor center.

Bangor Lodge #1106 of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks is pleased to announce the
Elks National Hoop Shoot to be held beginning at 12:00 PM noon on Saturday December 8, 2018 at the
Washington Elementary School, 381 Washington Blvd, Bangor, PA. This Free Throw Contest is open to boys and girls ages 8 through 13 and is free to all contestants. Registration will be open beginning at 11:30 AM on December 8, 2018 at the school gymnasium.
Beginning at the local level, winning contestants will advance through District, State, Regional, and National competitions. The Elks helps sponsor contestants and their families at every level of competition. One boy and one girl from each division will win a national title at the National Finals and have their names inscribed in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Two National Champions will receive the Getty Powell Award for most baskets made during the National Finals.
The Elks National Hoop Shoot Program, sponsored by the Elks National Foundation, provides a character-building, competitive experience for all contestants. Contestants learn about the importance of respect and good sportsmanship. The Bangor Lodge is a proud sponsor of this annual local event. Winners of this local event will represent our Lodge at the District Free throw competition, also being held at Washington Elementary in February.

(craft offered for 3rd grade and up) and at 1:00 PM construct a wire angel ornament for $2! (craft offered for 6th grade and up). The costs are for materials. Breakfast with Santa
Hosted by First United Methodist Church Saturday, December 8, 2018 at 9 AM – 11 AM, 55 North 3rd Street, Bangor. You're invited to bring your children to their second annual Breakfast with Santa at the church. You'll enjoy a delicious, hot, all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet with Santa. Everyone will have an opportunity to have their picture taken with Santa!
Seating is limited so make your reservations now. Last year we were at maximum capacity and couldn't admit any more. Children under 12 are free, all others are $5.
No refunds will be issued for cancellations made within 2 weeks of the event or for no-shows as your reservations are for your seats and means that someone else was unable to attend.
Winter Wildlife Watch
On Saturday, December 8 at 10:00 AM-3:00 PM, spend some of your Saturday watching wildlife at Jacobsburg! Our educators will have activities available at the visitor center including a morning bird walk, bird feeder making, indoor wildlife viewing area, and an afternoon hike to find traces of animals along the trails. Hot chocolate will be available all day long. Join us for one of the organized adventures, choose your own, or enjoy the activities at the visitor center.
Elks National Hoop Shoot
Bangor Lodge #1106 of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks is pleased to announce the
Elks National Hoop Shoot to be held beginning at 12:00 PM noon on Saturday December 8, 2018 at the
Washington Elementary School, 381 Washington Blvd, Bangor, PA. This Free Throw Contest is open to boys and girls ages 8 through 13 and is free to all contestants. Registration will be open beginning at 11:30 AM on December 8, 2018 at the school gymnasium.
Beginning at the local level, winning contestants will advance through District, State, Regional, and National competitions. The Elks helps sponsor contestants and their families at every level of competition. One boy and one girl from each division will win a national title at the National Finals and have their names inscribed in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Two National Champions will receive the Getty Powell Award for most baskets made during the National Finals.
The Elks National Hoop Shoot Program, sponsored by the Elks National Foundation, provides a character-building, competitive experience for all contestants. Contestants learn about the importance of respect and good sportsmanship. The Bangor Lodge is a proud sponsor of this annual local event. Winners of this local event will represent our Lodge at the District Free throw competition, also being held at Washington Elementary in February.

Family Night: Mysterious Mammals will be held Friday, December 14 at 6:30-7:30 PM at acobsburg. Get hands-on with some furs and skulls while learning about the mammals of Pennsylvania.
