 The Finale
A Celebration of the Life of Jean Pinto

Picture

On Saturday, November 24 at 2 pm in the Wind Gap Middle School The New Approach will perform "The Finale" A Celebration of the Life of Jean Pinto.
Jean was "Mother" to everyone who ever sang, played an instrument for or worked with The New Approach.  She dedicated her life to helping find a cure for cancer, a disease which touched the lives of many members of the group.  Ironically, Jean's daughter lost her life to cancer along with Tim Carracio (for whom the group was originally started) and several other members of The New Approach.
Everyone who knew Jean, loved her.  She was an aid in the Bangor School District, a former choir director at Trinity UCC in Stone Church, and the Director of Music for many years at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Plainfield Township.  She led the Children's choir and the Praise Team at St. Peter's until her death.
The members of The New Approach decided that there should be one final show dedicated to this amazing woman who lived her life loving music and sharing that love with everyone she met.  If you're thinking it will be a performance of sad songs, you're wrong.  The group has compiled a lineup of audience and group favorites, most of which are very "happy" songs.  You'll hear the Little Approach perform as only kids can, the "Oldies" group will be there and of course members of the current group along with former members who have come back to join in the celebration.
Originally the show was going to be held in St. Peter's Church but through word of mouth and so many people saying they'd be attending the celebration, the location was changed to Wind Gap Middle School Auditorium so there is enough room for all those who want to be there.
The members of The New Approach look forward to celebrating the life of their "mother", Jean Pinto and would be grateful to see a full house on November 24.  They can't promise there won't be some tears shed, but they do promise there will be lots of joy, laughter and smiles as they remember Jean.

Canadian woman wins big on birthday gift lottery ticket

Picture
(UPI)  A Saskatchewan grandmother is more than $700,000 richer thanks to a lucky birthday present from her granddaughter.   Ethel Clarkson of Regina said she doesn't like to ask her relatives to buy her anything for her birthday, so she kept it simple when her granddaughter asked for gift ideas.
"   My grand-daughter asked me what I wanted for my birthday," Clarkson said. "I didn't want to ask for anything, so I suggested 'maybe a lottery ticket.'"
"I certainly wasn't expecting this!" she said.
The Lotto Max ticket, bearing the numbers 4-7-13-19-42-45-46, ended up winning one of 53 MaxMillions jackpots in the Oct. 19 drawing, earning Clarkson a $764,420.80 prize.
"It's so surreal," she said. "I jumped up and down, started screaming and crying as I was so excited -- but I didn't think it actually could be real."
Clarkson said her plans for the money include buying a new car and paying off her debt.
"It's a dream to be debt free and to be able to help my family," she said..

THIS DAY IN HISTORY - November 1

Sistine Chapel ceiling opens to public  1512

The ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in Rome, one of Italian artist Michelangelo’s finest works, is exhibited to the public for the first time.
Michelangelo Buonarroti, the greatest of the Italian Renaissance artists, was born in the small village of Caprese in 1475. The son of a government administrator, he grew up in Florence, a center of the early Renaissance movement, and became an artist’s apprentice at age 13. Demonstrating obvious talent, he was taken under the wing of Lorenzo de’ Medici, the ruler of the Florentine republic and a great patron of the arts. After demonstrating his mastery of sculpture in such works as the Pieta (1498) and David (1504), he was called to Rome in 1508 to paint the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel—the chief consecrated space in the Vatican.
Michelangelo’s epic ceiling frescoes, which took several years to complete, are among his most memorable works. Central in a complex system of decoration featuring numerous figures are nine panels devoted to biblical world history. The most famous of these is The Creation of Adam, a painting in which the arms of God and Adam are stretching toward each other. In 1512, Michelangelo completed the work.
