TGAI Annual Arts Fair Today
Totts Gap Arts 9th Annual Arts Fair will be held Sunday, May 6 at 10 AM - 4 PM at Totts Gap Arts 1494 Totts Gap Rd, Bangor, Pennsylvania 18013 Dance & Theater performances will begin at 12pm and continue after the awards presentation. Dutch fashion and shoe label Explicit Wear is hoping to solve one of life’s sticky situations — the annoyance of stepping in discarded chewing gum on the pavement — while helping to keep Amsterdam’s city streets clean. The brand has partnered with local marketing organization Iamsterdam and sustainability firm Gumdrop to create a limited-edition sneaker for adults made from recycled gum that’s literally been scraped from the city’s pavements.
The discarded gum is being put to good use to make stylish kicks that also raise awareness for the anti-littering cause. Priced at around $332, the shoes will debut sometime in June. According to the project, more than 3 million pounds of gum wind up on Amsterdam’s streets and sidewalks each year, costing the city millions of dollars to clean up. Available for preorder now, the new Gumshoe sneakers — offered in both a bubblegum pink and a black/red colorway — feature durable rubber outsoles fashioned from recyclable compounds (called Gum-Tec) produced by Gumdrop, 20 percent of which are made from gum. Nearly 2.2 pounds of gum is used in every four pairs of shoes. A map of Amsterdam is molded into the bottom of the soles to subtly remind people of the littering problem. Even better, the sneakers actually smell like bubblegum, too — without the annoying stickiness. Ice Cream Social
The Wind Gap Legion Auxiliary will be hosting an Ice Cream Social on Saturday May 19th from 11 am - 2 pm for Veterans, Active Duty Military personnel and their families. This is also Armed Forces Day, a day to pay tribute to our American Heroes. We will have ice cream cones and a "Make Your Own Sundae" bar free for these folks. We strive to bring veterans and our community together to show them our appreciation and offer support when they need it. We also invite our local community to join us as well and ask only for a small donation to help defray the costs. We have ice cream and extras being donated by our local ice cream shop "Sweet Nanny's Ice Cream Creamery" in Wind Gap. We hope other local ice cream shops join in as well. cost of the camp is $125 per child (for 6 week session) and space is limited. "The River of Doubt: Theodore Roosevelt’s Darkest Journey"

This thrilling account of one of our country's most famous Americans is sure to grasp any reader’s attention and keep him or her riveted to this story. Author
Candice Millard has done an excellent job of writing of the adventure of Theodore Roosevelt and his companions as they explored an uncharted river in the
heart of the Amazon rain forest in 1914.
Roosevelt was defeated in his attempt to serve a third term as president. He was shocked, humiliated, and discouraged at the loss and eagerly sought an activity to renew his spirits. When asked to accompany the most famous Brazilian explorer, Candido Rondon, on a trip down an unknown, never explored river,
he jumped at the chance. Along with his son, Kermit, and twenty others, they set off on a journey of unbelievable hardship. Three members of the group died and Roosevelt almost lost his own life.
Near starvation and disease were constant companions on this trip through one of the most dangerous jungles in the world. Near drownings, traversing through countless whitewater rapids, fear of attacks by Indians, backbreaking portages around numerous waterfalls, the loss of canoes – it is miraculous that anyone survived the journey. In fact, many geographers of the day refused to believe that Theodore and his party had accomplished such a feat;
they deemed it impossible to have done so.
This extremely well-researched and well-written account will hold your attention; you will marvel at what these men survived and accomplished. Find it in

UMBT Summer Camp
Upper Mount Bethel Township invites you to 2018 UMBT Summer Recreation Camp. Online registration for students entering Grades K through 7 can be done at umbt.org from May 1 through June 15, 2018. Ride for Relief
Ride for Relief is a motorcycle charity run organized by Pastor Chris and members of the First United Methodist Church that will take place on Saturday, July 14th. The ride will be a 50+ mile tour of the scenic Slate Belt region, beginning and ending at the First United Methodist Church. The ride is raising money for the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), and all funds will be allocated for United States disaster relief.
Registration completed prior to June 15th will be discounted at a rate of $25 per rider and $15 per passenger.
Registrations after June 15th will be $30 per rider and $20 per passenger. Every registration includes the ride, food, and a T-shirt.
On the day of the event, registration begins at 10:00 am with coffee, cold beverages, and pastries. After a brief message and prayer by Pastor Chris the ride will begin promptly at 11:00. Riders should be returning to the church at approximately 1:00 pm where hot dogs, walking tacos, nachos, cookies and cold beverages will be served. We’ll enjoy good food and live Christian music. Door prizes will be awarded and T-Shirts will be available for sale.

English Channel tunnel opens 1994
In a ceremony presided over by England’s Queen Elizabeth II and French President Francois Mitterand, a rail tunnel under the English Channel was officially opened, connecting Britain and the European mainland for the first time since the Ice Age.
The channel tunnel, or “Chunnel,” connects Folkstone, England, with Sangatte, France, 31 miles away. The Chunnel cut travel time between England and France to a swift 35 minutes and eventually between London and Paristo two-and-a-half hours.
As the world’s longest undersea tunnel, the Chunnel runs under water for 23 miles, with an average depth of 150 feet below the seabed. Each day, about 30,000 people, 6,000 cars and 3,500 trucks journey through the Chunnel on passenger, shuttle and freight trains.

Bangor Park Volleyball
The Bangor Park Volleyball Program will hold its annual league registration from 7 to 8 PM on Monday, May 7 at Bangor Memorial Park (under the pavilion next to the volleyball courts). The league, in existence for over three decades, will include women’s A and B leagues, co-ed league and a men’s league. Team representatives will submit a copy of their team roster and a check for $150 made payable to Bangor Borough. Those who are unable to attend the meeting should contact league director Marc Ennico at 484.819.0898 or [email protected]. The deadline to submit payment and roster is Friday, May 18. The women’s leagues will play on Mondays, co-ed league on Tuesdays and men’s league on Thursdays. Games will begin promptly at 7 PM for all leagues.
Music Monday at Dansbury Depot
This week’s featured musician will be Chris London. Chris will entertain us with a collection of songs that we all know and love. His guitar playing and his voice are a wonderful blend. Chris will be singing solo tonight but he also plays with the band, Friar’s Point. Chris is a well-known entertainer in the Poconos and the Lehigh Valley. A free will offering will be taken on behalf of the musician.
Tonight we welcome Pat Munz as our resident artist. Since she was a small child, she has been drawing and painting as a hobby. She dreamed to be an artist when she grew up, but her artistic style didn’t agree with the pop and abstract art of the 1970s. Pat graduated from college with a degree in Accounting, unable to take a single art class. She spent seven years as an auditor for an international oil and gas company, then joined the FBI as a Special Agent. After twenty-two years with the FBI in Anchorage, Alaska, She decided to retire and pursue art full time. She is self-taught, and paints in both oil and acrylics. Pat paints a wide range of subjects, including landscapes, animals, people (but not portraits), and old, historic buildings, often painting from photographs she has taken or by friends, and family on trips all over the US and Alaska. She is also an avid quilter, donating many quilts for charity auctions and fundraisers. As a result of conducting genealogy research on her family's ancestors, she has become interested in designing quilts of family crests and coat-of-arms, which she does on a commission basis. Bangor Park Volleyball
The Bangor Park Volleyball Program will hold its annual league registration from 7 to 8 PM on Monday, May 7 at Bangor Memorial Park (under the pavilion next to the volleyball courts). The league, in existence for over three decades, will include women’s A and B leagues, co-ed league and a men’s league. Team representatives will submit a copy of their team roster and a check for $150 made payable to Bangor Borough. Those who are unable to attend the meeting should contact league director Marc Ennico at 484.819.0898 or [email protected]. The deadline to submit payment and roster is Friday, May 18. The women’s leagues will play on Mondays, co-ed league on Tuesdays and men’s league on Thursdays. Games will begin promptly at 7 PM for all leagues.
Music Monday at Dansbury Depot
This week’s featured musician will be Chris London. Chris will entertain us with a collection of songs that we all know and love. His guitar playing and his voice are a wonderful blend. Chris will be singing solo tonight but he also plays with the band, Friar’s Point. Chris is a well-known entertainer in the Poconos and the Lehigh Valley. A free will offering will be taken on behalf of the musician.
Tonight we welcome Pat Munz as our resident artist. Since she was a small child, she has been drawing and painting as a hobby. She dreamed to be an artist when she grew up, but her artistic style didn’t agree with the pop and abstract art of the 1970s. Pat graduated from college with a degree in Accounting, unable to take a single art class. She spent seven years as an auditor for an international oil and gas company, then joined the FBI as a Special Agent. After twenty-two years with the FBI in Anchorage, Alaska, She decided to retire and pursue art full time. She is self-taught, and paints in both oil and acrylics. Pat paints a wide range of subjects, including landscapes, animals, people (but not portraits), and old, historic buildings, often painting from photographs she has taken or by friends, and family on trips all over the US and Alaska. She is also an avid quilter, donating many quilts for charity auctions and fundraisers. As a result of conducting genealogy research on her family's ancestors, she has become interested in designing quilts of family crests and coat-of-arms, which she does on a commission basis. Harrisburg -- Senator Mario Scavello (R-40) and the American Legion will be holding a Veterans Assistance Day on May 8 at the senator’s Tannersville district office. This service is offered on the second Tuesday of each month. The district office is located at 2989 Route 611, Suite 103 Tannersville, PA 18372.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., a service officer with the American Legion Pennsylvania Department will be on site to assist veterans with issues including: compensation and pension claims, education benefits, enrollment in the VA health care system, burial and survivor benefits, state benefits, and obtaining military personnel and medical records.

The Bangor Lions Club is a non-profit organization that raises money for sight conservation, diabetes awareness, the hearing impaired, White Cane, Center for Vision Loss, local food banks and leader dog for over 60 years. We as a club, also hand out 3 scholarships to deserving students in the Bangor School District. We also sponsor the Leo Club at Bangor High School.

Slate Belt Memories of 1964
Mr. David Blau will present, “Memories of 1964” at the Slate Belt Heritage Center on Thursday, May 10 at 7:00 PM. Mr. Blau will speak about the creation of the “Bangor Slater Mascot”, growing up in Bangor, his parent’s escape from Austria during World War II, and many more memories.
Mr. Blau is a 1964 graduate of Bangor High School where he created and drew the original “Slater Mascot”. He attended Penn State University and received his Degree in Architecture in 1968.
He received his Master’s Degree in Urban Planning from Georgia Tech University. He served in the Navy for two years and then accepted a position with the urban planning firm EDAW in San Francisco.
He and his wife Jennifer Kristof Blau live in Pleasant Hill, CA.
The presentation is free and open to the public.

The duo Woodrow, based in Bushkill, PA, performs a variety of familiar classic rock, folk, and country tunes featuring songs from artists such as Fleetwood Mac, The Grateful Dead, Tom Petty, Janis Joplin, Merle Haggard, and more. They can be seen at various local wineries, brew pubs, tasting rooms, small bars and coffee houses as well as larger outdoor festivals. They can also frequently be found supporting their local community and arts scene by performing at community festivals, art shows, and non-profit events. Guitarist and vocalist Brian Bramkamp's spacey-blues leads are inspired by greats
such as Jerry Garcia, Eric Clapton, Warren Haynes, and David Gilmore. Brian also writes the music and lyrics for all of the original tunes on Woodrow's upcoming album “Way Out in the Weeds”. Vocalist Theresa Ratliff takes the lead on most of Woodrow's cover tunes and originals. Theresa's vocal career started in musical theater at the age of 11 (although her mother will tell you she popped out singing!), but her passion has always been Rock and Blues. She takes her inspiration from strong female vocalists like Janis Joplin, Grace Potter, and Stevie Nicks and who fearlessly broke into the “boy's club” of
rock's lead singers. Woodrow also performs regularly with the Juggernaut String Band, with Brian on guitar and vocals and Theresa on vocals, ukulele, and percussion. The Juggernaut String Band performs a wide variety of music including covers of classic rock, folk, bluegrass, country songs, parade and sing-along songs, as well as original music.
Bill Graff is our featured artist. Bill was originally born and resided in N.J. I moved to the Pocono region in 1989 and have lived here ever since. He feels the picturesque scenery of the Pocono Mountains gives him inspiration for my art work. He is self-taught and his wildlife pictures are just beautiful. He recently retired and plans on devoting his time to his art work. He also enjoys painting on different materials such as antique saws, driftwood and anything that catches his eye while walking through yard sales or walking with nature in the mountains. He feels blessed to have this talent and immensely enjoys painting.

We strive to bring veterans and our community together to show them our appreciation and offer support when they need it. We also invite our local community to join us as well and ask only for a small donation to help defray the costs. We have ice cream and extras being donated by our local ice cream shop "Sweet Nanny's Ice Cream Creamery" in Wind Gap. We hope other local ice cream shops join in as well. cost of the camp is $125 per child (for 6 week session) and space is limited. Dorchester when the ship was lost in 27 minutes. The Chaplains displayed extraordinary Faith, Courage, and Selfishness, while assisting the crew members.
The Roper Quartet will render musical selections. Rosalyn Pennington and Gianna Greggo, will give recitations of “Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address” and “In Flanders Fields.” Walter Cole will play “Taps” in honor of deceased service men and women. The Rev. Msgr. Vincent P. York, pastor of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Parish, Pen Argyl will offer the Invocation and Benediction.
In case of inclement weather, services will be held at St. Joseph’s Episcopal Church Social Hall, Verona Drive, West Bangor. The public is invited to attend.

Alex Allegra enjoys connecting with people through her music. She performs regularly, entertaining audiences with her original songs as well as select Country classics and Country Pop favorites. No stranger to the stage, Alex Allegra got her start studying acting, dance and vocal performance for more than a decade while participating in a number of local theater programs and audition-only choral groups. About 5 years ago, she combined some lyrics with one of the melodies she created, and her first song, Put Aside My Flaws, came to life. This new-found passion led to a breakthrough opportunity in the summer of 2015, when she was selected to attend the prestigious Interlochen Arts Camp for aspiring singer-songwriters in Interlochen, Michigan. While there, she was featured in two public concerts, performing her first original as well as a song she wrote at camp. In August 2016, she launched her first music video featuring her song, Sayin' Goodbye, and in October of that same year, she released a demo CD, "My Journey," that features 7 of her originals. The May 28th Art Show and Sale is dedicated to the late Jim Smeltz. Jim was a long time impressionistic painter in the area. His artwork has been sold worldwide. Jim was especially talented not only with his artwork but also an excellent teacher who has introduced hundreds of blooming artists in the area to painting. His contributions to our community are countless and his many friends are evidence of the respect he gave and received. This show is to honor his memory and give our community a chance to purchase some of his precious works. Jim was an outstanding artist, teacher, friend, and family member. He is missed by all who knew him.

Doc Pappalardo was suckled by Pennsylvania Dutch wolves and rescued by itinerant Sicilian Stone-cutters who settled on the banks of the Delaware River. Doc was raised up there in the wilds of Shawnee-on- Delaware, home to a ridiculous number of famous people, including Jackie Gleason and Mr. Green Jeans, whose bass still travels with the band. Doc fondly remembers listening to the Grand Old Opry on his Grandmother’s gigantic Philco radio in his formative days, when everybody else was listening to do-wop and top forty hits. Multi-instrumentalists, The Renegade Ramblers are a loose tribe of musicians who delight in playing blues and traditional and original bluegrass music, with brief raids into Irish and Americana music.
Tonight we welcome David Sandt, Photographer, of Star Mountain Studio, as our featured artist! David's pictures are a visual testament to the beauty of the Poconos and near-by regions. Dave has charmed many visitors with his shows and many beautiful pictures hang in a multitude of houses and businesses throughout the area. Dave will be showing and selling his beautiful pieces of art inside the depot.

School Chorus is directed by Cathy Tynemouth. She states the following about the group: This is the fourth and fifth grade chorus from J.M. Hill Elementary School. This year, this chorus had over 80 members. Along with their two annual chorus concerts, they performed in the community throughout the year. They have sung in the past years at East Stroudsburg Borough's Harvest Fest, Big Brother/Big Sister Telethon, Pocono Medical Center's Tree Lighting, Stroud Mall, Lackawanna Train Ride Excursions, PTA events, and Pancake Day. This year their spring program was "A Musical Road Trip Across the USA" They stopped in many places on their travels and performed songs like "Shenandoah"; "Fifty Nifty United States" ; "Deep in the Heart of Texas" and

First United Methodist Church in Bangor is offering kids entering kindergarten thru 5th grades one awesome time. “We want to give kids the chance to learn more about sports, discover character-building concepts, learn about God’s love, and have a whole lot of fun,” says Pastor Chris Hardy.

The Bangor Quarry Hoist has booked its first event! On Thursday, July 12, 2018, at 7 PM, it will operate for the Slate Belt Heritage Center's monthly program, which will occur at the Hoist. The program will detail the restoration of the hoist and feature a live demonstration. Ride for Relief is a motorcycle charity run organized by Pastor Chris and members of the First United Methodist Church that will take place on Saturday, July 14th. The ride will be a 50+ mile tour of the scenic Slate Belt region, beginning and ending at the First United Methodist Church. The ride is raising money for the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), and all funds will be allocated for United States disaster relief.
Registration completed prior to June 15th will be discounted at a rate of $25 per rider and $15 per passenger. Registrations after June 15th will be $30 per rider and $20 per passenger. Every registration includes the ride, food, and a T-shirt.
