Scavello Legislation gets final Approval
Harrisburg -- Legislation co-sponsored by Senator Mario Scavello (R-40) to generate significant economic development statewide, create jobs and enhance the state’s clean energy portfolio gained final legislative approval Wednesday.
Senate Bill 234 was approved by the Senate in January and the House of Representatives today. It now heads to Gov. Wolf for enactment. The bill lays the groundwork for counties and municipalities to create Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) financing programs. PACE financing allows business owners, contractors, and private investors to arrange long-term loans that are repaid through the property taxes on a building, allowing for limited or no upfront cost for the business.
The inclusion of loan payments in the building’s property taxes relegates responsibility of payment to the current owner of the building for the duration of the loan.
Senator Scavello said the property tax mechanism, which is administered by local governments, is attractive to the business owner, who is not forced to tie up valuable capital or be bound to a property for an extended period, as well as the investor, who can count on regular payments towards the loan. The all-around incentives of the PACE program have made it a popular plan that has been authorized in 33 states and the District of Columbia.
Senator Scavello, as Majority Chair of the Senate Community, Economic & Recreational Development Committee, worked with the bill’s sponsors, Sen. John Blake (D-22) and Sen. Guy Reschenthaler (R-37), to bring together dozens of stakeholders from the business, labor and clean energy communities to develop the legislation.
“There are many businesses in my district that have been able to capitalize on the benefits of solar. Some of those businesses were able to afford the upgrades, but others can’t, and this program helps those who do not have the funds readily available, but can afford a long-term loan,” Scavello said. “Statewide, this will mean significant economic development and job creation through enhancement of the state’s clean energy portfolio. In addition, many commercial, industrial and residential buildings throughout Pennsylvania see savings as they are made more efficient by energy upgrades.”

Joan of Arc Martyred 1431
At Rouen in English-controlled Normandy, Joan of Arc, the peasant girl who became the savior of France, is burned at the stake for heresy.
Joan was born in 1412, the daughter of a tenant farmer at Domremy, on the borders of the duchies of Bar and Lorraine. In 1415, the Hundred Years War between England and France entered a crucial phase when the young King Henry V of England invaded France and won a series of decisive victories against the forces of King Charles VI. By the time of Henry’s death in August 1422, the English and their French-Burgundian allies controlled Aquitaine and most of northern France, including Paris. Charles VI, long incapacitated, died one month later, and his son, Charles, regent from 1418, prepared to take the throne. However, Reims, the traditional city of French coronation, was held by the Anglo-Burgundians, and the Dauphin (heir apparent to the French throne) remained uncrowned. Meanwhile, King Henry VI of England, the infant son of Henry V and Catherine of Valois, the daughter of Charles VI, was proclaimed king of France by the English.
Joan’s village of Domremy lay on the frontier between the France of the Dauphin and that of the Anglo-Burgundians. In the midst of this unstable environment, Joan began hearing “voices” of three Christian saints—St. Michael, St. Catherine, and St. Margaret. When she was about 16, these voices exhorted her to aid the Dauphin in capturing Reims and therefore the French throne. In May 1428, she traveled to Vaucouleurs, a stronghold of the Dauphin, and told the captain of the garrison of her visions. Disbelieving the young peasant girl, he sent her home. In January 1429, she returned, and the captain, impressed by her piety and determination, agreed to allow her passage to the Dauphin at Chinon.

Music Monday at Dansbury Depot
Doc Pappalardo was suckled by Pennsylvania Dutch wolves and rescued by itinerant Sicilian Stone-cutters who settled on the banks of the Delaware River. Doc was raised up there in the wilds of Shawnee-on- Delaware, home to a ridiculous number of famous people, including Jackie Gleason and Mr. Green Jeans, whose bass still travels with the band. Doc fondly remembers listening to the Grand Old Opry on his Grandmother’s gigantic Philco radio in his formative days, when everybody else was listening to do-wop and top forty hits. Multi-instrumentalists, The Renegade Ramblers are a loose tribe of musicians who delight in playing blues and traditional and original bluegrass music, with brief raids into Irish and Americana music.
Tonight we welcome David Sandt, Photographer, of Star Mountain Studio, as our featured artist! David's pictures are a visual testament to the beauty of the Poconos and near-by regions. Dave has charmed many visitors with his shows and many beautiful pictures hang in a multitude of houses and businesses throughout the area. Dave will be showing and selling his beautiful pieces of art inside the depot.

MEGA Sports Camp
Hey parents! Ready to drop a ton of fun right into your child’s summer? Then MEGA Sports Camp is right hosted by First United Methodist Church of Bangor is for you. The camp will be held Jun 18 - Jun 22 at 6:00pm at the Pennico Park in South Bangor.
First United Methodist Church in Bangor is offering kids entering kindergarten thru 5th grades one awesome time. “We want to give kids the chance to learn more about sports, discover character-building concepts, learn about God’s love, and have a whole lot of fun,” says Pastor Chris Hardy.
At MEGA Sports Camp, kids can participate in basketball and kickball (or sports basics for the little ones). It doesn’t matter if they’ve played all their life or just started yesterday, our camp helps improve their skills. All sorts of drills and practice games will get kids focused on the fundamentals that make athletes great. Plus, we create a positive and encouraging environment that pumps up their confidence and self-esteem.
Between sports sessions, coaches lead in songs and help kids experience inspiring sports and Bible stories to help character-building themes take hold in kids’ hearts. And most importantly, kids will discover God’s great love for them.
So come on over to Pennico Park in Bangor, hosted by First United Methodist Church. It starts on Monday, June 18th and lasts through Friday, June 22nd, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm each evening. For more information and registration check out our website at www.firstumcbangor.com.
