Martini on Wheel of Fortune Viewing party fights cancer
Four months ago after two auditions, Robyn Martini of Pen Argyl was selected to be a contestant on the Wheel of Fortune. Her appearance will air on Friday, December 28, 2012 on Channel 6 at 7:30pm. A viewing party will be held at Detzi's Tavern in Wind Gap that evening from 6:30-8:30 PM, where 10% of all of the food proceeds will go to the WipeOut Cancer Foundation. This is a local organization that was started by one of Martini's friends a few years ago, and she and her committee have been extremely successful in raising money for local families struggling with cancer (Tim Roper being one of them). Martini wants to help her raise some money so that she has something to work with and can start finding a new family to help in 2013. She has also invited a family from Snydersville who has a young boy recently diagnosed with leukemia. His family has been trying to keep everything positive for him, and started an "I'm Awesome" campaign. They will attempt to spread the word and sell some tee shirts. The money they raise goes to other families they have met at CHOP Martini is not allowed to discuss the outcome of the show, but can admit to some anxious moments during the show' s taping. "I wanted to say in Welsh, Pen Argyl means “mountain of slate,” and I wanted to make references to the game of quoits, and pasties, and tomato pie… but none of that came out of my mouth," she said. "I wasn’t even sure where I was from in that moment. Mainly because I grew up in, and graduated from Bangor..... I do know that I did not even mention my son’s name. So when everyone else is raving about how amazing and wonderful their spouse and children are, I neglected my offspring. His name is Sam. He is an 8th grade student at Wind Gap Middle School, and I am very proud to be his mom. "I wanted to say that I work for Carbon-Monroe-Pike Mental Health/Developmental Services, and that my co-workers are the most kind and warm-hearted people I have ever encountered. They do this line of work because they genuinely love it, and because they want to help people. To say they are overworked and underpaid is a gross understatement, but they never stop trying to make a difference."
