Strong winds are expected from the Northwest from 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 60 mph. Strong winds will develop during the morning hours Friday from south to north across the watch area. Winds will peak during the late morning through the early evening hours before diminishing somewhat late Friday night. Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Numerous power outages are possible. Additionally, rain may change to snow Friday and Friday evening, especially northwest of Philadelphia. The snow combined with the wind may produce localized whiteout conditions. Travel may become very difficult as a result.

A Winter weather advisory in effect from 11 am Friday to 4 am Saturday for wet snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 6 Inches at higher elevations above 800 feet and 2 inches or less in the valleys are expected. in New Jersey, Warren and Morris counties. In Pennsylvania, Northampton County and the Slate Belt. Rain will transition to snow initially along the high-elevation ridges around midday Friday and then closer to mid afternoon in the valleys. The snow will be heavy at times Friday afternoon and evening with snowfall rates of 1 inch per hour possible. The snow is expected to end from west to east overnight. Plan on very difficult travel conditions, including during the evening commute on Friday. The combination of strong northwest winds gusting to 50 mph and heavy snow could create near-blizzard conditions with visibilities below one-half mile at times. The heavy, wet nature of the snow and strong winds will likely cause damage to trees and power lines that will lead to scattered power outages, especially at higher elevations.

Does your heart like pot?
Most of the debate about the health effects of marijuana centers on the brain changes that may come with using the drug, such as the drug's association with an increased risk of developing schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders. But could smoking pot mess with your heart, too? In an April 2014 study, researchers combed through 2,000 cases of medical complications from marijuana in France and found that 2 percent involved heart problems, including nine fatal heart attacks. The study wasn't designed to determine why pot use might occasionally lead to heart problems, but previous research has found that marijuana can increase heart rate and blood pressure, which could tip a vulnerable individual over into heart attack territory. "The perception is that marijuana is a magical drug, that it's totally safe, and we can use it in medical treatment. What we don't know about are the negative effects, the potential harms," Dr. Suzanne Steinbaum, a cardiologist at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York who was not involved in the study, told Live Science at the time. depending on the individual. The 2018 Lehigh Valley and Flower Show set for March 9 from 12pm - 8pm; March 10 from 10am - 8pm and March 11 from 11am - 4pm at the Allentown Fairgrounds, presents the theme: Fields, Farms and Backyards. The Agri-Plex building at the Allentown Fairgrounds will transform into a scene of flowery fields, beautiful farms and exquisite backyards.
“We’re excited to bring a new and exciting theme to the Lehigh Valley Flower and Garden Show combining three aspects of the Lehigh Valley along with new and unique artisans, seminar speakers and activities for all ages.” stated Show Director, Linda Zeller.
New seminars and activities include: The She Shed Village, Pick the 2019 Show Theme, Kids Scavenger Hunt, Wonders of Butterflies, Painting Pigs, Paint a Wooden Frog, a Lehigh Valley Zoo demonstration, Seed Planting with the 4H, Alice’s Table Flower Arranging Class, purchasing flowers from the displays and so much more.

“Shuffle Off to Breakfast”
On Saturday March 24, 2018 from 8AM to 11AM the Bangor High School Drama Department will be hosting the fifth annual pancake breakfast with the cast of ”42 nd Street” at the Bangor Area Middle School.
42nd Street is a show about a show, telling the story of a Broadway director’s attempt to produce a successful stage production during the Great Depression. 42nd Street debuted on Broadway in 1980 and won the Tony for Best Musical and Best Choreography. It is full of crowd-pleasing tap dances, popular musical theatre standards, and show-stopping ensemble production numbers.
In addition to restaurant-quality food and top-notch service, patrons will be entertained with musical performances from the cast of “42 nd Street”. Patrons will also have the opportunity to learn a few tap dance steps as taught by Miss Julie, of Miss Julie’s Dance and Fitness Studio. A photo booth for posing
as the star of your own Broadway show will be available, activities for children of all ages, and numerous baskets will be raffled throughout the morning.
The breakfast will raise funds for the high school musical production of “42 nd Street”. Performance dates are: April 13, 14, 15, 2018. Tickets for the musical will be available for purchase at the pancake breakfast or you can call 610-599- 7011 x1001 for further information regarding tickets for the musical.

Winston Churchill is well remembered as prime minister of Great Britain during WWII. His strong character and determination to stand against the Nazis
brought him world recognition at a critical time in history. But Churchill was making a name for himself way before the winds of the second world war were sweeping through Europe.
This book focuses on Churchill’s involvement in the Boer War in southern Africa in 1899. As a very young man, he craved power and recognition and sought
ways to set himself apart and above others. When war broke out between the British and the Afrikaaners, Churchill rushed to Africa and inserted himself in
the forefront of the conflict. His capture and extraordinary escape made headlines in England and his name a household word.
The author does an excellent job explaining Churchill’s backround and motivation for his actions. This wonderfully well written book will keep you reading from cover to cover..

NCC to Stage “The Trojan Women”
Northampton Community College (NCC) will stage The Trojan Women, a tragic-comic remake of the classic anti-war play by the ancient Greek playwright Euripides. The playwright, Caroline Bird, is considered one of the U.K.’s most exciting new poets.
Performances will take place on Thursday, March 1; Friday, March 2; Saturday, March 3; Monday, March 5 at 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday, March 4 at 3:00 p.m. at the Norman R. Roberts Lab Theatre, Kopecek Hall, Bethlehem Campus.
Admission is free with a donation of non-perishable food items for a food bank or a donation to the Norman R. Roberts Scholarship Fund for theatre majors.

The Bangor Area School District will be offering the spring Gearing Up for Kindergarten program beginning this March. The program will be held at the
Washington Elementary School on Tuesdays and the Five Points Elementary School on Wednesdays from March 6 to March 27, 2018 from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM.
The Gearing Up for Kindergarten program is intended for families with a child who will be entering kindergarten in August 2018. The classes run for an hour and a half each night. This program offers parent/child activities, as well as separate child preparation and parent education classes. Parent topics include: Learning Styles/School Readiness, Temperament, Early Literacy/Math, Social/Emotional Development, Nurturance and Prevention Tools, Nutrition, Safety, and Parent’s Role in School Success. Preschool topics include Math activities, Science exploration, Motor development, Sensory
development and Reading/Literacy.

UMBT Bus Trip
Upper Mount Bethel will be having its First Bus Trip of 2018 on Sunday, March 11th to the Philadelphia Flower Show at the Pennsylvania Convention Center! The Bus Trip and ticket for admission is $33 for adults, Students ages 17-24 is $25, and Children/Teenagers from ages 2-16 is $20. Under the age of 2 is free. You can purchase tickets by cash or check (payable to Upper Mount Bethel Township) at the Township Building or you can mail checks with guests names to Upper Mount Bethel Township (Att: Flower Show Bus Trip) PO BOX 520 Mount Bethel, PA 18343. The Bus picks up at the Mount Bethel Fire House at 8am and will return by 6pm. Get your tickets before February 22nd as we will no longer accept reservations after that date. The Bangor Area Middle School PTSO (Parent, Teacher, Student, Organization) is hosting its 1st Annual Harlem Wizards Basketball Game on April 7, 2018. While the PTSO is fairly new, we are running this fundraiser in hopes that we can raise enough money to assist the school with future purchases that are not in their budget such as: new library books, school supplies and equipment, funding field trips and assemblies, as well as assist with purchases for the school dances throughout the year. We wanted to take a new approach to fundraising and offer a family friendly event that would bring the community together for a great cause and promote wellness at the same time. We will have our own team consisting of teachers and staff from each school in the district as well as some High School players. Our team will be playing against the Harlem Wizards.

Celtic Cultural Alliance is excited to announce an Ogham Art Tile Class, led by Nancy Lewis. This workshop takes place in two sessions: April 18th from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. and April 25th from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m..
Come join us for a fun night of exploring the Ogham alphabet, and then create your own design in a clay slab. After it is fired, come back to class one week later and glaze it. The ceramic piece can be picked up at Celtic Cultural Alliance after May 2.
The Ogham alphabet was used to represent the Primitive Irish language using a series of perpendicular and intersecting lines, written vertically, and then read from bottom to top. This class is suitable for ages 16 and up.
Instructor Nancy Lewis is a talented artist who continually inspires as students as an art teacher at Liberty High School. A graduate of Kutztown University, she enjoys ceramics, watercolor and pen and ink. She resides in Bethlehem along with her husband, George, and their children.

Come join us for a fun night of exploring the Ogham alphabet, and then create your own design in a clay slab. After it is fired, come back to class one week later and glaze it. The ceramic piece can be picked up at Celtic Cultural Alliance after May 2.
The Ogham alphabet was used to represent the Primitive Irish language using a series of perpendicular and intersecting lines, written vertically, and then read from bottom to top. This class is suitable for ages 16 and up.
Instructor Nancy Lewis is a talented artist who continually inspires as students as an art teacher at Liberty High School. A graduate of Kutztown University, she enjoys ceramics, watercolor and pen and ink. She resides in Bethlehem along with her husband, George, and their children.

The Bangor Quarry Hoist has booked its first event! On Thursday, July 12, 2018, at 7 PM, it will operate for the Slate Belt Heritage Center's monthly program, which will occur at the Hoist. The program will detail the restoration of the hoist and feature a live demonstration.
