2. The Bangor Girls defeated Saucon Valley 46-26 Saturday. (Individual scoring unavailable) The Slaters record is 12-5 with three games to play that include Northern Lehigh, Notre Dame Green Pond and Pen Argyl. Currently, the Slaters are in a good position to earn a spot in the Colonial League Playoffs, possibly vs Palisades. Bangor has qualified for the District 11, 5A tourney. The Slaters are ranked third behind Southern Lehigh (1) and Pottsville (2). East Stroudsburg is a distant fourth in the four-team 5A girls class. 3. The Bangor boys beat Nazareth Saturday 72-43. Scoring leaders were Tony Jones 20, Isaiah Jones 17, and Ben Holland 11. The Slaters are likely to get a bye in the Colonial League playoffs. It's difficult to guess who they would meet in the semi finals. The Slaters have qualified for the District XI 5A playoffs as well. They rank second to Central Catholic in the current rankings. 4. The Bangor Wrestlers will meet Saucon Valley 5:30pm Monday at Catasauqua in one semi final. Wilson meets Northwestern in the other. The winners will meet at 7:30 for the League trophy. 5. Regarding the Bangor vs Bangor event, there is little to report officially since we have yet to receive a news release. Unofficially, if the Patriots beat the Eagles in the Super Bowl our Bangor would reportedly send some products from Bangor businesses to Bangor, Maine. If the Eagles win, Bangor, Maine will send. among other things, books by one of the most well-known authors of our time in the country, Steven King. King has written 54 novels, over 200 short stories. He has published over 350,000,000 copies. Incidentally, the correct pronunciation of Bangor is BANG - OR, not banger as one area TV reporter says. You can Google this and hear an audible pronunciation. Even You Tube has a short piece on the correct pronunciation of Bangor. Harlem Rockets Fundraiser For D.A.R.E.
This year, the Slate Belt Regional Police Department re-implemented the DARE program at the Wind Gap Middle School. Officer Robert Long and his students have generated a lot of excitement over the upcoming Harlem Rockets versus Slate Belt Dream Team in a charity basketball game to support the DARE program.
The game is being held on Friday, February 9th at 7:00pm at the Pen Argyl High School Gymnasium. Feel free to come out to support the DREAM TEAM and the DARE Program. The Rockets' roster includes: James "Speedy" Williams, The Crown Prince of Laughs featured in the movie "Above the Rim", performed live at MTVMusic Awards while Jay Zee was performing, featured on the Play station Street-Hoops Game. Junie “General Electric” Sanders earned his nickname in the famous playground known as Rucker Park. He’s the NIKE one on-one “King of Battleground” Champion. Played collegiately at Oklahoma Southern. Played in the NBDL and also played 12 years in Argentina. Mario “Super Mario” Dahl, stands a mere 7’3’’ tall and attended the University of Buffalo. Super Mario is athletic and runs up and down the court like a deer. He speaks 3 different languages and is considered the gentle giant! Cliff “Jet Blue” Malone, 6’4” high flyer and exciting dunker who has performed in PowerAde commercials and others, as well as movies. An extra-ordinary slam dunker. Brings high-energy and incredible leaping ability. Gordy Malone, attended the University of West Virginia. Drafted by the Minnesota Timberwolves where he played along with Kevin Garnett. Jay “Smooth” Bryant, graduated from Southampton College and earned his Master’s Degree in Sports Management from Adelphi University. Also, serves as Vice President of Harlem Rockets. December 2017 - Staff members from HDOnTap and Codorus State Park worked through the cold and wind to replace and rewire cables at the nest site. Some of the nest had fallen. Scavello Lauds PAC Worldwide Expansion
Harrisburg -- Senator Mario Scavello (R-40) hailed the announcement that PAC Worldwide will be expanding its operations to Lower Nazareth Township, creating 160 new jobs in Northampton County. PAC Worldwide will lease a 420,000-square-foot facility in Lower Nazareth. The project includes leasehold improvements, equipment acquisition and training for its employees. PAC plans to invest more than $28 million into the project, which will create more than 160 new jobs over the next three years. “One of my top priorities as a state lawmaker has been to foster job creation, improve our business climate and spur economic growth in Pennsylvania,” said Scavello. PAC received a funding proposal from the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) for a $489,000 Pennsylvania First grant, $326,000 in Job Creation Tax Credits to be distributed upon creation of the new jobs, and $73,350 in WEDnetPA funding for employee training. For more than 40 years, PAC has developed, manufactured, and automated premium packaging solutions for customers worldwide. PAC manufactures protective mailers and specialty packaging for the courier, e-commerce, fulfillment, and distribution markets, and offers a full portfolio of branded and stock packaging with bubble lined and flat solutions. “Strong communities across the 40th Senatorial District require access to good jobs and a diverse economy that reflects the changing marketplace,” said Scavello. “We need to keep working diligently to feature Pennsylvania’s infrastructural potential and proximity to major markets while streamlining regulations and lowering the cost of doing business in Pennsylvania, so that employers can continue to operate and those looking to relocate will feel confident that Pennsylvania is open for business.” THIS DAY IN HISTORY - January 28Challenger disaster 1986 At 11:38 a.m. EST, on January 28, 1986, the space shuttle Challenger lifts off from Cape Canaveral, Florida, and Christa McAuliffe is on her way to becoming the first ordinary U.S. civilian to travel into space. McAuliffe, a 37-year-old high school social studies teacher from New Hampshire, won a competition that earned her a place among the seven-member crew of the Challenger. She underwent months of shuttle training but then, beginning January 23, was forced to wait six long days as the Challenger‘s launch countdown was repeatedly delayed because of weather and technical problems. Finally, on January 28, the shuttle lifted off. Seventy-three seconds later, hundreds on the ground, including Christa’s family, stared in disbelief as the shuttle broke up in a forking plume of smoke and fire. Millions more watched the wrenching tragedy unfold on live television. There were no survivors. In 1976, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) unveiled the world’s first reusable manned spacecraft, the Enterprise. Five years later, space flights of the shuttle began when Columbia traveled into space on a 54-hour mission. Launched by two solid-rocket boosters and an external tank, only the aircraft-like shuttle entered into orbit around Earth. When the mission was completed, the shuttle fired engines to reduce speed and, after descending through the atmosphere, landed like a glider. Early shuttles took satellite equipment into space and carried out various scientific experiments. The Challenger disaster was the first major shuttle accident.

At 24 weeks gestation Felicia and Brett were heartbroken to learn that their baby girl was diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot with Pulmonary Atresia and MAPCA’s This meant being delivered in Philadelphia to ensure she was surrounded by some of the areas top medical teams to help baby Evelyn Hope begin this amazing fight for her life. Evelyn Hope arrived in this world on November 13th of 2017 and has endured more medical procedures than most of us would ever in a hundred lifetimes. Currently they are in California at a top medical facility with an amazing team of professionals doing everything they can to help her fight. This has been an unbelievable emotional experience for Felicia, Brett and their entire family. And now it’s our turn as a community to reach out and help!
