Drought Warning In Effect Northampton, Carbon, Lehigh and Monroe counties are now under a drought warning. Residents and businesses, particularly in central and eastern counties, should use water wisely and follow simple water conservation tips to ease the demand for water. Citizens are encouraged to voluntarily reduce their water use by 10-15 percent.
Data from the Commonwealth drought monitoring network shows dry conditions persisting in the middle of the state and lack of precipitation in the eastern part of the state have deepened precipitation deficits, resulting in extremely low stream flow and groundwater levels, particularly in the Lehigh Valley and surrounding areas in the Delaware River Basin. The Department of Environmental Protection encourages all citizens to take these steps to reduce their water use:

Forks Tree of Lights Forks YMCA Education Center Hosts Third Annual Tree of Lights Celebration is where individuals of all ages will gather to honor and remember those who make our neighborhoods and lives a better place. The event will feature a tree lighting, seasonal songs sung by the center’s children, the Easton Area High School’s Brass Ensemble, Frosty the Snowman and the arrival of Santa Claus.

Library Night at Wendy’s The Blue Mountain Community Library will be holding a “Library Night at Wendy’s” Fundraiser on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. Wendy’s Restaurant, route 512, Wind Gap, PA will generously donate a portion of all sales that night to the Library in Pen Argyl. The fundraiser will include dine-in, take-out and drive-through orders. Please consider supporting the Blue Mountain Community Library by purchasing a meal from Wendy’s. CENTER VALLEY, Pa., Nov. 17 (UPI) -- A cross country runner's final race of his college career hit a snag in Pennsylvania when he was trampled by a deer -- and the incident was caught on camera.
Justin DeLuzio, a senior at Pennsylvania's Gwynedd Mercy University, was running Saturday in the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional Cross Country Championships at DeSales University in Center Valley, Penn., when four deer abruptly ran across the course. "I turn my head a little bit to the left and he comes right there," DeLuzio told WCAU-TV. A video recorded by spectator Eric Bologa and posted to Facebook shows one of the deer barrel straight into DeLuzio. "He knocked me down pretty good," DeLuzio said. Teammate Matt French helped DeLuzio back to his feet and accompanied him as he finished the race, albeit with a bruised hip and a sore body. "My last country race, his last country race and just a demonstration of camaraderie and it's what this team is all about," DeLuzio said of French. DeLuzio, a potential Valedictorian for his graduating class, said the incident could have been much worse. "I was lucky," DeLuzio said. "I was fortunate. I know if that deer was a little bit bigger I could have been in serious trauma."
Automotive...Cyberattack 411: Protecting Your Vehicle from Hackers
(BPT) - New vehicles are packed full of the latest and greatest technology. Among their many capabilities, today's vehicles can automatically apply brakes to avoid collisions, maintain a designated following distance behind the car ahead of it and maneuver the vehicle back into its lane if the driver veers out of it. Some cars can even drive and park themselves!
Additionally, in-car Wi-Fi and mobile hotspots allow passengers to connect their computers, tablets and smartphones to the internet from the convenience of the vehicle cabin. Bluetooth allows hands-free use of phones, and infotainment systems let people enjoy their favorite tunes, access apps, navigate and more. These technological advances provide tremendous benefits for drivers and passengers, but much of this technology can also be used to launch cyberattacks on your vehicle "Modern cars are essentially rolling computers and, just as your laptop, smartphone or tablet can be hacked, so can these driving machines," says Craig Smith, author of The Car Hacker's Handbook and founder of the Open Garages vehicle research lab. Millions of today's vehicles possess vulnerabilities that leave them open to new age methods of theft that don't require a key or Slim Jim or, worse, situations where drivers no longer have control over their vehicles while driving. Mercury Insurance, one of the nation's leading auto insurance providers, recently connected with Smith to help keep drivers safe and shed some light on this growing problem. According to Smith, there are several key vulnerable areas consumers should be aware of, including: * On-board diagnostics-II (OBD-II) ports; * Key fobs; * Infotainment systems (including audio files that owners may have synced for in-car entertainment); * In-car Wi-Fi; * Mobile hotspots; * Navigation systems; * Smartphones (connected to cars via Bluetooth); and * Tire pressure monitoring systems. "There are many factors that go into determining a vehicle's risk of being hacked," says Smith, who has worked in the security industry for more than 20 years and with the auto industry for five. "Newer vehicles have what we call a higher 'attack surface,' meaning there are more areas that are hackable." "If you are specifically concerned about remote hackers, as opposed to those who have physical access to your car, then look at the wireless systems your vehicle supports. If your vehicle has telematics, satellite or digital radio, internet, Bluetooth, or wireless key fobs, these wireless services can provide entry points for an attacker over varied distances. This is also true for aftermarket components added to your vehicles, such as dongles plugged into your vehicle to monitor your driving for insurance reasons." Local hackers can gain access to a car to unlock it and steal its contents or even start the ignition to steal the vehicle. To protect against vehicle hacking, Smith recommends disabling wireless services that aren't being used. Consumers should refer to the information their auto manufacturer provides on vehicle features, decide which ones are important and only enable those options. Those who wish to use a dongle in their vehicle should try to use it sparingly and take it with them when they leave their car. "The key to protecting your vehicle if it's deemed at-risk for hacking is to disable the components that have the most risk. For instance, if the radio unit is the culprit you can disable it or replace it," says Smith. "And while newer vehicles tend to have a larger attack surface, they also have more safety features that can help minimize or avoid injury in a collision, so you should consider that as well." Forks Tree of Lights Forks YMCA Education Center Hosts Third Annual Tree of Lights Celebration is where individuals of all ages will gather to honor and remember those who make our neighborhoods and lives a better place. The event will feature a tree lighting, seasonal songs sung by the center’s children, the Easton Area High School’s Brass Ensemble, Frosty the Snowman and the arrival of Santa Claus.
The event will be held Wednesday, December 7, 2016, 7 PM – 8 PM at Park Plaza, 1800 Sullivan Trail, Easton, PA.x Library Night at Wendy’s The Blue Mountain Community Library will be holding a “Library Night at Wendy’s” Fundraiser on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. Wendy’s Restaurant, route 512, Wind Gap, PA will generously donate a portion of all sales that night to the Library in Pen Argyl. The fundraiser will include dine-in, take-out and drive-through orders. Please consider supporting the Blue Mountain Community Library by purchasing a meal from Wendy’s. The money will be used to purchase new books and to meet the many expenses associated with maintaining the building. Membership to the library is free to all residents of the Pen Argyl School District and non-residents may join for a small yearly fee.
A Christmas Tree Fundraiser is currently being offered at the library for anyone wishing to honor or memorialize a loved one or pet. Please consider purchasing an ornament for $5.00 to decorate the tree. The library has many Pen Argyl High School yearbooks for sale, as well as books on local history. We are also interested in obtaining more of these books, in particular, “Ring the Bells for Olde Pen Argyl.” Anyone wishing to donate this type of book can call Lisa at 610-863-3029 for information or visit the website at www.bmcl.org . December 16Bangor High School Bands Winter Concert The BAHS Bands Winter Concert will be held on Friday, December 16 at 7:30 PM in the M. Craig Paine Performing Arts Theater at Bangor Area High School. The Concert and Symphonic Bands will each present their own portion of the concert with compositions by Steve Reisteter, James Barnes, Chris Bernotas, James Curnow, Pavel Tschesnokoff, and John Moss.
At the conclusion of the program, both groups will unite on stage for a grand finale complete with a Christmas Carol sing-along and our annual performance of Sleigh Ride conducted by a jolly special guest. Tickets will be available at the door for $3 adults/$2 students and seniors. Gold Cards and Slater Band Boosters Membership Cards will be honored. Please join us on December 16 to share in the holiday joy! December 17Breakfast With Santa at Columbia Fire Co. Columbia Fire Co. No. 1 is Roseto will be sponsoring a Breakfast with Santa on Saturday December 17th from 9-11am at the Roseto Municipal Building. The event is open to all children from Roseto borough as well as children and grandchildren of current Fire Co. members. Cost is FREE for those under 10.
