Faith Relay for Life Team Kicks Off Fundraising
Starting promptly at 4pm at Bangor Memorial Park on Friday May 20 and continuing to 4pm on May 21, the 2016 Relay for Life event will once again get underway. Faith Church’s Relay for Life team will be there with plenty of “Walking Tacos” to provide the much needed energy to complete all those laps. In fact, the 'Walking Tacos” have been such a hit that Faith Church was able to exceed their fund-raising goal and contribute more money towards cancer research every year since their introduction.
“Well the Walking Tacos are back again this year and better than ever,” said Team Co-captain Betty Woolley. At previous years’ Relay for Life events, the demand for “Walking Tacos” was pretty incredible. So the Committee decided to ramp up production and supply more of the tasty treats along with cold drinks. Those “Walking Tacos” are one delicious mix of seasoned beef, salsa, cheese, lettuce and sour cream served in a bag of Doritos or Fritos (your choice) making them quite portable hence the name “Walking Tacos.” “We will be ready with plenty of ‘Walking Tacos’ to help participants complete the miles and enjoy a tasty treat as they do so,” said Pastor Ruth Ann Christopher who is also going to conduct a short service before the lighting of the luminary tribute bags--a very special event that remembers our family and friends affected by this disease. Pastor Christopher said, “Faith Church is a proud participant in the fight against Cancer. We’re firm believers in MORE BIRTHDAYS!”

DELTONA, Fla., (UPI) -- A Florida woman had her windshield shattered when a turtle came crashing through it as she drove down a local interstate.
Nicole Marie Bjanes shared a photo of the incident which tool place on I-4 near Deltona on Monday. So this happend today!" Bjanes wrote alongside photos of turtle and the shattered windshield. "On I-4 he lived and I'm ok just shaken up!" The turtle can be seen laying on its back on Bjanes's dashboard after Florida Highway Patrol officers say it was run over by a car in front of her. "A vehicle in front [of Bjanes' car] ran over the turtle. The turtle was thrown airborne and struck the windshield ... shattering it," they told ABC News. Bjanes said she was driving about 75 miles at the time of the accident and noticed debris near the road, but did not see the turtle until it was flying through her windshield. She was treated for minor cuts at the scene, but both Bjanes and the turtle walked away from the accident without any serious injuries. Bjanes wrote on Facebook that she would have liked to keep the turtle, but it was ultimately placed in a nearby pond and swam away.

BAHS School Marching Band Uniform Fund Drive The Bangor Area High School Marching Band uniforms, which are modeled after Her Majesty’s Royal Welsh Guard, pay tribute to the heritage of Bangor, PA. After years of normal wear and tear, the uniforms must be replaced. The new uniforms will continue to use the same style.

May 26Mattei Plans First Town Hall Meeting In his bid for State Representative of the 137th District, Dave Mattei will begin to hold Town Hall Meetings in various locations around his district that, when elected, he will continue during his tenure. Mattei believes in bringing good ole grass roots back by knocking on doors himself, making personal phone calls, and having Town Hall Meetings. Mattei states, “My first priority in my campaign is to listen to the people of the district and be a visible community presence for them to talk with.” Mattei goes on to explain that the essence of being an effective State Representative is to listen to the constituents, hear what they have to say, process all of that information along with research so that his policy and vote reflect his districts needs and priorities.
He wants his Town Hall Meetings to be informal where the exchange of conversation is productive and friendly. Mattei will kick off his Town Hall Meetings at the Roseto American Legion located at 143 Garibaldi Avenue, Roseto on May 26th at 6pm and is open to all within the district. September 23Bethlehem Celtic Fest 2016BETHLEHEM, Pennsylvania, — The Celtic Cultural Alliance (CCA) will reach its 29th year of presenting the largest free Highland Games and Celtic festival in North America during the weekend of September 23rd through the 30th. This year brings back old Celtic Classic favorites such as Timlin & Kane, Seven Nations and the Glengarry Bhoys as well as new features like Low Lily, Moxie Strings, Barrule & Calan. From bagpipes to bodrahns, fiddles to whistles, Bethlehem will be filled with foot stomping Celtic music all weekend.
A wide variety of Scottish, Welsh and Irish bands and genres will take stage this September. The complete performer line up can be found at www.celticfest.org/entertainment Celtic Classic 2016 will also honor its traditional festival features. In addition to the U.S. National Highland Games Championship come an assortment of food styles and beverages, Celtic retail merchants, competitions and dance. Celtic Classic runs from Friday, September 23rd through Sunday, September 25th in downtown historic Bethlehem.
