Bangor Author Pens 'His Rules'![]() Native Bangorian Nicholas Cuono Sr. has written a book entitles His Rules. The book is a guide for others. and is "a history book of sorts." He starts with the creation in the Bible and make comparisons to the scientific theories of how this earth came to be. He then talks about the “first” humans…but the first humans with souls. He moves to several of the best know men of God and provides information from the Bible "that is not the normal perception of these men and the events recorded related to them."
There are several chapters dedicated to the “rules” in this life and "how we are to observe them; followed by ways to get the strength to assure we follow them as closely as humanly possible." He then writes about the time of Jesus and what His mission was, who He was, and what He did for humanity. This is followed by several chapters on the formation of Christianity. He concludes by sighting specific periods in time which were the basic influences on the refining of the many Christian faiths. The book is on sale on his publisher's site, Tate Publishing, both paperback and downloadable. It is also on sale at all of the major online book sites such as Barnes and Noble, Amazon and BAM. The established retail price is $20.99. If someone wants a signed copy you can contact him at 610-588-2041. Book Review......The Underground Girls of Kabul
book by Jenny Nordberg review by Sonya Pin Most women in the U.S. think of themselves as valuable human beings. They are bright, talented artist and musicians or skilled athletes or physically beautiful or just plain loveable. But in Afghanistan, the only value a woman has is her womb, and when that womb fails to produce sons (it is always her fault), the family must take drastic measures. Nordberg uncovers the ancient custom of the bacha posh, girls who from birth are raised as boys. In a society that celebrates the birth of a son and mourns the birth of a daughter, Afghan families turn to a third kind of child. For twelve or thirteen years, the bacha posh can leave the house without a head scarf or face veil, go to school, run errands in the neighborhood, and play in the yard. With the onset of puberty, all that freedom vanishes and the bacha posh must turn into a young woman preparing for an arranged marriage and motherhood. Nordberg, who is an investigative reporter, tries to understand the effect this kind of upbringing has on the girls who lived their whole lives as boys. She describes the role of women in a society where females are valued very differently from those in the West. ![]() EMT Chris Confalone show children the inside of a real ambulance during story hour at the Bangor Public Library. Arteval Duarte, an activist known for filming bizarre stunts aimed at raising awareness of deforestation and other environmental issues, appears in the videocarefully placing the bats in his mouth in Jacunda, Brazil. Business....Biotech Companies Remain the "It" Stock to Have in Your Portfolio![]() (NewsUSA) - Sponsored News - If investors have learned anything from Wall Street in recent years, it's how finicky the market can be. While there is no "sure thing" when it comes to investing, analysts agree that biotech companies remain a solid opportunity.
One company that is emerging head and shoulders above its counterparts is Endonovo Therapeutics (ENDV), a biotechnology company developing bioelectronics-based products and therapies for regenerative medicine. Analysts say that what makes this particular company so attractive is the fact that it is focusing on both the medical device field and as cell therapies. Endonovo's devices are based on the Time-Varying Electromagnetic Field technology originally developed at NASA. The way it works is this: the technology uses electromagnetic pulses to deliver electrical stimulation to the nervous system and cells. These devices are non-invasive and non-implantable, and are used to prevent and treat vital organ failure by reducing inflammation and cell death at the same time while promoting regeneration. In pre-clinical studies, Endonovo's technology was found to be an innovative approach to treating acute inflammation, since others in the field typically use implantable electrodes to treat patients. The company is concentrating its efforts on treating inflammation in the liver, which, if validated, could change the landscape of medicine since inflammation is the root of all disease. In addition, the company has plans to apply for orphan drug designation for its next-generation, off-the-shelf treatment of Graft-Versus-Host (GvHD) disease, using enhanced stem cells from the human umbilical cord. If Endonovo receives FDA approval to market its product, the company could easily reach a billion-dollar valuation. For those not familiar with GvHD, it is a rare condition in which immune cells in donor bone marrow or cord blood transplants attack the recipient of the transplant, causing a failure of the graft, and is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality among recipients. Endonovo's method is different from other companies that are also looking for a way to treat GvHD in that Endonovo's strategy does not include genetic modification and the use of small molecule drugs to enhance the therapeutic properties of stem cells. This means, according to Yahoo Finance, that ENDV's approach may be translated to other types of stem cells, and is easier to scale up and ultimately manufacture. For more information, please visit www.endonovo.com. esYou.com.
Careers...Preparing 21st Century Enterprises for Success in the Digital Age![]() (NewsUSA) - Sponsored News - It is no longer a brave new world for businesses. The digital age is here, and if experts are to be believed, businesses that have not already embraced this opportunity, risk joining those companies that refuse to adapt, and consequently are rapidly losing customers and revenue.
Consider this: according to the statistical website multpl.com, during 2015, S&P 500 companies as a group lost 3 percent in sales and 15 percent in earnings. At the same time, "Unicorn" private sectors companies, which are valued at more than $1 billion, including organizations such as Uber and Airbnb, are transforming the global business landscape in the digital age and quickly stepping over the old guard. So what do the likes of Snapchat and Pinterest have that other companies do not? According to HCL Technologies, a leading global IT services company, technology is at the core of these forward-looking enterprises and there are four distinct characteristics that these companies embrace: * Experience-Centric. These companies strive to offer the consumers a unified experience. * Service-Oriented. These companies change the operating model to focus on customer experience. * Agile & Lean. These companies optimize their size for fast-paced maneuvers. * Ecosystem-Driven. These companies collaborate to extend the ecosystem beyond the enterprise. "Going forward -- with the disruptions in the business landscape due to digitalization, new age business models and technologies -- the thinking of 'business as usual' and expecting to succeed needs a change," cautions C. Vijay Kumar, President, Global Infrastructure Services, HCL Technologies. "An enterprise can no longer operate in isolation." Instead, says Kumar, an enterprise has to look at a holistic business model transformation, overhauling its business functions and operations for a unified experience. A business must hyper-focus on services and collaborate across the entire ecosystem for success. While there is no blueprint for success, Kumar believes HCL can help guide companies through digital transformation and ultimately be successful through 3rd-generation, IT-outsourcing partnerships. HCL defines this as Next-Gen IT & Operations, and is uniquely positioned to offer integrated transformation services across applications and infrastructure, while adding the unique elements of hybrid cloud and DryICE, HCL's 3rd-generation automation platform. C. Vijay Kumar adds that key elements of HCL's differentiation include "Digital Infrastructure Transformation that leverages our capability in implementing Software-defined Infrastructure Stack, Hybrid Cloud Solutions, Unified Communications and Modern workplace solutions." HCL's DryICE automation encompasses 30-plus components, including some of the traditional automation solutions and orchestration, machine learning and cognitive solutions. This is a modular approach, enabling enterprises to be lean and agile, and has been implemented across all of HCL's top customers while gaining significant traction among new customers. HCL's Next-Gen IT&O approach adds significant value in making enterprises agile and lean for the digital age. It focuses on end-to-end technology transformation, preparing www.hcltech.com.
