Bethel, on Sunday, June 26th, beginning at 2 pm. Ellen Lott, Program Manager from The Nature Conservancy, will share insights into Mt. Bethel’s extraordinary natural wonders. The residents of the Mt. Bethel area live in the midst of three important landscapes: the Kittatinny Ridge, the Mt. Bethel Fens, and the Minsi Lake Vernal Pool Corridor. Everyone is invited to come and learn more about the creatures and features of these special places. This 60 minute program is being offered as part of an open house at the Slate Belt Museum.

Native Bangorian Nicholas Cuono Sr. has written a book entitles His Rules. The book is a guide for others. and is "a history book of sorts." He starts with the creation in the Bible and make comparisons to the scientific theories of how this earth came to be. He then talks about the “first” humans…but the first humans with souls. He moves to several of the best know men of God and provides information from the Bible "that is not the normal perception of these men and the events recorded related to them."
There are several chapters dedicated to the “rules” in this life and "how we are to observe them; followed by ways to get the strength to assure we follow them as closely as humanly possible." He then writes about the time of Jesus and what His mission was, who He was, and what He did for humanity. This is followed by several chapters on the formation of Christianity. He concludes by sighting specific periods in time which were the basic influences on the refining of the many Christian faiths. book by Jenny Nordberg review by Sonya Pin Most women in the U.S. think of themselves as valuable human beings. They are bright, talented artist and musicians or skilled athletes or physically beautiful or just plain loveable. But in Afghanistan, the only value a woman has is her womb, and when that womb fails to produce sons (it is always her fault), the family must take drastic measures. Nordberg uncovers the ancient custom of the bacha posh, girls who from birth are raised as boys. In a society that celebrates the birth of a son and mourns the birth of a daughter, Afghan families turn to a third kind of child. For twelve or thirteen years, the bacha posh can leave the house without a head scarf or face veil, go to school, run errands in the neighborhood, and play in the yard. With the onset of puberty, all that freedom vanishes and the bacha posh must turn into a young woman preparing for an arranged marriage and motherhood. Nordberg, who is an investigative reporter, tries to understand the effect this kind of upbringing has on the girls who lived their whole lives as boys. She describes the role of women in a society where females are valued very differently from those in the West.

Safe Haven will have many adorable dogs available for you to meet and get to know. Safe Haven requires a pre-adoption application with references and a home visit prior to adoption. Safe Haven Pet Rescue is a small group of dedicated volunteers from the West End of the Poconos who save highly adoptable dogs from high kill and overcrowded shelters and finds them loving homes. Shelter killing is the number one cause of dog deaths and Safe Haven has saved more than 800 lives so far. JACUNDA, Brazil, June 24 (UPI) -- An environmental activist in Brazil released a video showing him shoving two living vampire bats in his mouth.
Arteval Duarte, an activist known for filming bizarre stunts aimed at raising awareness of deforestation and other environmental issues, appears in the videocarefully placing the bats in his mouth in Jacunda, Brazil. Duarte then opens his mouth and the apparently uninjured bats fly away. Duarte's previous stunts included placing snakes in his mouth and being suspended in a wooden box that was set on fire.

In addition, the company has plans to apply for orphan drug designation for its next-generation, off-the-shelf treatment of Graft-Versus-Host (GvHD) disease, using enhanced stem cells from the human umbilical cord. If Endonovo receives FDA approval to market its product, the company could easily reach a billion-dollar valuation. For those not familiar with GvHD, it is a rare condition in which immune cells in donor bone marrow or cord blood transplants attack the recipient of the transplant, causing a failure of the graft, and is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality among recipients. Endonovo's method is different from other companies that are also looking for a way to treat GvHD in that Endonovo's strategy does not include genetic modification and the use of small molecule drugs to enhance the therapeutic properties of stem cells. This means, according to Yahoo Finance, that ENDV's approach may be translated to other types of stem cells, and is easier to scale up and ultimately manufacture. September 23Bethlehem Celtic Fest 2016BETHLEHEM, Pennsylvania, — The Celtic Cultural Alliance (CCA) will reach its 29th year of presenting the largest free Highland Games and Celtic festival in North America during the weekend of September 23rd through the 30th. This year brings back old Celtic Classic favorites such as Timlin & Kane, Seven Nations and the Glengarry Bhoys as well as new features like Low Lily, Moxie Strings, Barrule & Calan. From bagpipes to bodrahns, fiddles to whistles, Bethlehem will be filled with foot stomping Celtic music all weekend.
A wide variety of Scottish, Welsh and Irish bands and genres will take stage this September. The complete performer line up can be found at www.celticfest.org/entertainment Celtic Classic 2016 will also honor its traditional festival features. In addition to the U.S. National Highland Games Championship come an assortment of food styles and beverages, Celtic retail merchants, competitions and dance.
