Emrick Supports School Investments On Thursday,Joe Emrick joined members on both sides of the aisle in sending to Gov. Tom Wolf’s desk Senate Bill 1073, the key piece in the package of legislation that forms the 2016-17 state budget.
Senate Bill 1073 becoming law would represent an historic investment in public school education, including a $200 million increase in basic education funding for a total investment of $5.89 billion. The money would be distributed using the bipartisan Basic Education Funding Commission formula which was signed into law a few months ago. This formula finally addresses the funding inadequacies that cheated the schools in the 137th District over the last 20 years. Schools in the 137th Legislative District will receive the following increases:
This legislation includes a combination of new non-tax revenues such as long-overdue liquor reform and a tax amnesty bill that would allow individuals to file tax returns in exchange for reduced fees and interest on past-due taxes. What is does not include are the Personal Income Tax and sales tax increases from the governor’s wish list. Senate Bill 1073 would also target the opioid epidemic by appropriating $5 million to the Department of Drug and Alcohol prevention for emergency addiction treatment and another $10 million to the Department of Human Services for behavioral health services. It was said many times on the floor during debate that no budget bill is perfect. This legislation is the result of a bipartisan compromise where both sides gave up something as part of the negotiating process. HOG Charity Poker Run On Sunday, July 17. Tasty Tuesdays is back at Trinity Lutheran Church! Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, located at Broadway and 4th Streets in Bangor, will once again offer the free bag lunch program to children, families and individuals in the Bangor community this summer. Tasty Tuesdays will begin on Tuesday, June 14 and will run until August 12. Every Tuesday the bag lunch will be available and will contain a sandwich, fresh fruit, chips, a healthy snack bar and a drink. NEW YORK, (UPI) -- Joey Chestnut ate his way back to the hot dog eating title on Coney Island's famed Boardwalk this Fourth of July by breaking his own record.
Chestnut, known as "Jaws," scarfed down 70 hot dogs and buns while thousands watched at Nathan's Famous. The event, marking its 100th anniversary was shown live on ESPN3 and tape-delayed on ESPN. Chestnut, 32, had won eight titles in a row before losing to 24-year-old Matt Stonie, known as "The Megatoad, last year. In 2013, he set the record with 69 hot dogs in 10 minutes. Stonie ate 62 hot dogs last year, two more than Chestnut. They both are San Jose, Calif., residents. In a qualifying event last month, Chestnut ate 73 1/2 dogs. Stonie, who holds 14 eating world records, was the first winner not Chestnut or Takeru Kobayashi since 2000. Chestnut said Stonie "woke up the sleeping giant" when he beat him out last year. "Last year was rough," Chestnut told the crowd. "This year was the best ever." Stonie said there were "no excuses" for his loss. He said Chestnut did an amazing job. Earlier in the women's event, Mikie Sudo, of Las Vegas, successfully defended her title by eating 38 1/2 dogs, beating out three-time winner Sonya "The Black Widow" Thomas, of Alexandria, Va., with 35. The contest has occurred each July 4 in Coney Island since 1916, the year Nathan Handwerker opened the legendary restaurant. Several thousand watched the eaters on an elevated stage. One man held a sign that read: "Make America Eat Again," a play on presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump's campaign slogan, "Make America Great Again."

"The key factor here is that rates will remain lower for longer. I expect auto sales to remain high this year, considering rates consumers are getting," MacEachin said.

The Bangor Area High School Marching Band uniforms, which are modeled after Her Majesty’s Royal Welsh Guard, pay tribute to the heritage of Bangor, PA. After years of normal wear and tear, the uniforms must be replaced. The new uniforms will continue to use the same style.

The Bangor High School Class of 1966 will hold their 50th Reunion on Saturday October 8, 2016 @ the Delaware Water Gap Country Club (Wolf Hollow). Scavello to Host Free Vision Screening for Children Pen Argyl – State Senator Mario Scavello will host a free Vision Screening for children on Thursday, July 14 from 10 AM to 3 PM at his Pen Argyl District Office (2 North Robinson Avenue, Pen Argyl). The screening is hosted in partnership with Lions Kidsight USA.
Experts have estimated that as much as 80% of learning is visual and, if vision problems go undetected, they may become permanent by age seven. Children will be referred to an eye care provider for a comprehensive vision examination based on the results of the screening. Bethel Inn Presentation The Slate Belt Heritage Center will hold their monthly presentation 700pm, Thursday, July 14. Speaker for the evening will be Kara Muschock who will speak on the history of the Mt. Bethel Inn, known now as TK's. A log tavern stood on the site before the township of Upper Mt. Bethel was established in 1787 and it was the site of the first elections and community meetings. The present inn was constructed in 1855 and the main stage coach route ran behind this site with 611 to the front. It was also the site of the first post office. Bethlehem Celtic Fest 2016
BETHLEHEM, Pennsylvania, — The Celtic Cultural Alliance (CCA) will reach its 29th year of presenting the largest free Highland Games and Celtic festival in North America during the weekend of September 23rd through the 30th.
