Grants Awarded To East Bangor, Roseto State Reps. Joe Emrick (R-Mt. Bethel) and Sen. Mario Scavello (R-Northampton/Monroe) are pleased to announce a series of grants being awarded to three Northampton County entities in the 137th Legislative District by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA).
“We would like to congratulate these three groups, which earned the grants as part of a highly competitive process,” Emrick said. “Their applications are evaluated on a number of criteria, including economic impact, local financial support and project readiness. The $645,000 in grants was made available by the Pennsylvania Race Horse Development and Gaming Act’s Local Share Account. No taxpayer dollars are directly used in the funding of these grants, which are generated solely by the Mount Airy Casino in Mount Pocono. The three grant recipients are as follows:

GED Graduation Held On June 16, balloons, cake and graduation gowns were everywhere as 11 adults and their families, celebrated passing the GED test. They also celebrated completing the requirements to receive their High School Equivalency Diplomas from the Adult Education Programs at Bangor, Pen Argyl and Nazareth High Schools.
Adult students throughout Pennsylvania have been studying for the GED test and have had a difficult time passing since the test changed in 2014. It became computer based, more difficult and more expensive. Wendy Paul, a 53 year old displaced worker, was the student speaker and implored students to follow their dreams, no matter how difficult. Dr. Dennis Riker, Superintendent of Nazareth Area School District and Dr. Frank DeFelice, Superintendent from Bangor Area School District presented the students with their diplomas. This year's graduates were Tasha Compton, Doug Ferguson Jr., Zachary DiGennaro, Kaitlyn Tworkowsky, Melissa Fuls, Jessica Gold, Anthony Higginbottom, Tanner Kardelis, Pamela Palmer Wendy Paul and C.P. Free Fishing Day
HARRISBURG, Pa. – Families and friends visiting Pennsylvania’s popular outdoor spots over the Independence Day holiday weekend can enjoy a day of free fishing, thanks to the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC).
Monday, July 4, marks the second of two free fishing days in the Commonwealth. The first was on May 29. Fish-for-Free Days allow anyone – residents and non-residents – to legally fish in Pennsylvania without a fishing license. From 12:01 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. on both days, no fishing license is needed to fish in Pennsylvania's waterways. All other fishing regulations apply. “Fish-for-Free days offer an easy, convenient way to introduce friends and family to the sport of fishing, or to reconnect with the sport if you haven’t fished in some time,” said Steve Kralik, director of the Bureau of Outreach, Education and Marketing. “Many families already spend the day at lakes and parks throughout the state. Now they can try fishing at no cost.” “We know that once people try fishing, especially kids, they will see how much fun it is and will want to fish more often,” he added. To make the fishing experience more convenient, people can borrow equipment from dozens of fishing tackle loaner sites across the state. Many of the sites are right at state parks, which are always a popular place for visitors on the Independence Day weekend. Loaner sites are also available at county parks and some public libraries. More information is available on the PFBC website, which includes interactive maps, regional fishing reports, and tips on fishing fundamentals. LEFKADA, Greece, - A visitor to the Greek island of Lefkada captured video of a man riding a moped with a dog balancing on the seat behind him.
The video, filmed by a passenger in a car traveling on a Lefkada road, shows a man riding a moped at the side of the road with a dog balancing on the seat behind him while standing. The filmer said the dog did not appear too uncomfortable with the situation. "The moped was going about 20 mph and the furry shepherd dog seemed happy with his balancing act," the filmer wrote.
Parenting..Is Your Baby Ready for Chewing?
(News USA) -Taking the step up from baby food to table food requires a key skill: chewing. Chewing is a learned skill, and parents can help their babies make the transition by offering a mix of appropriately textured foods.Before introducing textured foods, review a baby's readiness. Signs that a baby is ready to begin eating soft foods include crawling with his or her stomach off the floor, pulling up to a standing position, starting to mash food with the jaws and attempting to feed him or herself (not necessarily successfully, but making the effort).
Learning to chew takes practice. It's not a skill babies develop instantly or even over a limited period of time, such as one month. Studies show that even when babies reach 3 years of age, they are still mastering chewing skills. Baby foods that combine different textures allow babies who are at the crawling or standing stage to simply explore those textures in their mouths without having to navigate separate foods. For older babies, small, soft food pieces can help promote side-to-side tongue movement and jaw mashing movement as preparation for chewing. Children who eat foods with chunky textures before the 10-month mark have an easier time transitioning to table food. Textured foods such as those in Gerber's Lil' Bits recipe collection are specifically designed with soft bits of food sized for babies' mouths and a gradual progression in texture to help them further develop their chewing skills. September 23Bethlehem Celtic Fest 2016BETHLEHEM, Pennsylvania, — The Celtic Cultural Alliance (CCA) will reach its 29th year of presenting the largest free Highland Games and Celtic festival in North America during the weekend of September 23rd through the 30th. This year brings back old Celtic Classic favorites such as Timlin & Kane, Seven Nations and the Glengarry Bhoys as well as new features like Low Lily, Moxie Strings, Barrule & Calan. From bagpipes to bodrahns, fiddles to whistles, Bethlehem will be filled with foot stomping Celtic music all weekend.
A wide variety of Scottish, Welsh and Irish bands and genres will take stage this September.
