DeBoer Joins ESU Staff
Jake DeBoer, Head Baseball Coach since 2009, has recently resigned from his position at Pen Argyl Area High School. He has accepted a Assistant Baseball Coaching position at ESU with John Kochmansky
DeBoer led the Green Knights to five playoff appearances, including two District XI Finals and a Colonial League Championship in 2011. He was twice named Colonial League Coach of the Year in 2010 and 2011. He leaves Pen Argyl with a career coaching record of 97-75. Pen Argyl Area School District thanks Coach DeBoer for his eight years at Pen Argyl and wishes him the best of luck in his new position with the Warriors. Pen Argyl will begin the search for a new Head Baseball coach immediately. De Boer, ESU’s career hits leader, was a three-time All-PSAC East selection, earning first team recognition in 2006 and 2007 following a spot on the second team in 2005. He was also named to three All-Region teams as a senior for the Warriors. He graduated with school records for career hits (224), total bases (297), stolen bases (66) and games played (184) following his career as a four-year starter. He still holds the Warriors’ career hits record almost a decade later. De Boer reunites with Kochmansky, who was his head coach at Pen Argyl High School from 2000-03. De Boer was a graduate assistant coach for the Warriors in 2008 during Kochmansky’s first season as head coach at ESU. “Jacob brings a wealth of baseball knowledge, recruiting presence and PSAC experience to our program,” said Kochmansky. “He represents the core values of ESU and our baseball program, and is ready to return and help our program continue to reach its goals as a consistent contender in the PSAC and the Atlantic Region.” De Boer replaces longtime ESU assistant coach Bob Shebelsky, who is retiring after 12 seasons as an assistant coach for the Warriors alongside head coach John Kochmansky.610-566-2023.

Columcille Megalith Park Guided Tours Columcille Megalith Park offers guided tours on the third Saturday of each month
CircleOur tour will start at 10:00am July 16 with an orientation talk in the standing stone circle by Irish historian and storyteller Tom Egan who will explain the park's mission and the origins of European standing stone monuments. Tom will also give details on the origins and extent of the European Celtic culture with a short explanation about the gods and goddesses of ancient Celtic Mythology. Included is an explanation of who Columcille was in the context of early Irish history and an explanation of how the park's founder Bill Cohea became inspired to create the beautiful place we will be touring. Thor's Gate The tour will then begin. Stops along the tour will include St. Columba's Chapel, St. Oran's Bell Tower, Signal Hill, Thor's Gate, the Labyrinth, Temple of the Glen and the Cauldron stone. Plus the Fairy Ring, the Sacred Mens's site, Celtic eye, the Sacred Women's site, Manannan's Stone and the Sirius Stone. Iona & Columcille At each stop along the tour the special meaning of that place will be discussed, particularly as the place relates to the topics that were covered in the initial orientation talk. These discussions at the sites along the way typically vary considerably in content and depth to keep them responsive to the varied interests of individuals taking each tour. The tours will end at the Voyagers Lounge around noon, where those on the tour are invited to sign the guest book and examine the publications, crystals and other material related to the park that are available there. 3 Ways to Create Visually Striking Doors
(BPT) - Think of a door opening and closing.Chances are you pictured it swinging on hinges, since that’s how most doors operate. But, more homeowners are choosing other door hanging hardware for a unique look with their interior and exterior doors.
If you’re looking for a way to make visitors to your home say “wow,” consider alternatives to hinged doors for an unexpected twist.
“Once you’ve chosen the door that’s perfect for you, it can be hung in a number of distinctive ways,” says Brad Loveless, marketing and product development manager for Simpson Door Company. “A pocket door, sliding barn door or a pivot door can add some personality and pizzazz to your home.”
Pocket doors
Similar to closet doors hung on a track, pocket doors slide open and closed, but disappear into the wall when closed. Popular in home offices, bathrooms and utility rooms, pocket doors save space and can make a room feel more open. Using a pocket door in place of a hinged door saves about 10 square feet of floor space, notes home improvement expert Tim Carter.
Depending on the width of the opening, you can use either a single pocket door, or double pocket doors that slide into opposite walls and meet in the middle when closed. Because they don’t seal as tightly as hinged doors, pocket doors are largely limited to use inside the home, instead of as entry doors.

“For high-end homes with extra-wide doors, pivots are a great way to handle the additional weight, and will be unlike anything your visitors have seen before,” Loveless says. “We are making many different super-sized doors for this exact application.”
Some of these doors are huge — measuring up to four feet wide or more. As “large, simple rectangles,” pivot doors can be designed to look like the surrounding wall, so fit well in modern style homes, notes architect Bud Dietrich. Carousel and Golf Course Open
The National Historical Registered Carousel and Golf Course at Weona Park, Pen Argyl will be open Wednesday-Friday evenings 3 P.M.-9 P.M; Saturday and Sundays 12 Noon – 9 P.M., weather permitting. Carousel Rides are $1. A round of golf is $5 per person. Please note the first 9 holes of Weona Park Golf is handicap accessible.
Tasty Tuesdays is back at Trinity Lutheran Church!
Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, located at Broadway and 4th Streets in Bangor, will once again offer the free bag lunch program to children, families and individuals in the Bangor community this summer. Tasty Tuesdays will begin on Tuesday, June 14 and will run until August 12. Every Tuesday the bag lunch will be available and will contain a sandwich, fresh fruit, chips, a healthy snack bar and a drink. The lunches will be available for pick up at the church between 11:30am-1pm. If you would like to register but are unable to come at that time to pick up the lunch, please let the church office know and accommodations can be made.

BAHS School Marching Band Uniform Fund Drive
The Bangor Area High School Marching Band uniforms, which are modeled after Her Majesty’s Royal Welsh Guard, pay tribute to the heritage of Bangor, PA. After years of normal wear and tear, the uniforms must be replaced. The new uniforms will continue to use the same style.
The Slater Band Boosters have initiated a fund drive to support this effort. The Boosters will appreciate any donations, small or large, to this cause.

90th Birthday Celebration

Carl was born in Bangor and graduated from Bangor High School. He and his wife, Anne, built a home and raised their family outside Pen Argyl. He was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church. Have you ever looked for birds and other animals that live along a creek? Have you ever collected insects and crayfish in a creek? Join us for a week of getting wet and having fun exploring the Bushkill!
*Registration is required.

Have you ever wondered what the early settlers of the Lehigh Valley did for fun? Join us for a week filled with all sorts of fun recreational activities from the past and present. We’ll play Frisbee golf, practice archery skills, go geocaching and much more!

SEPTEMBER 9
Totts Gap Dance at COTA, 7 PM, $10 Admission. Presbyterian Church of the Mountain, Main Street & Church Lane, Delaware Water Gap, PA 18327. The COTA festival begins on Friday night at the Dutot Museum at 6:00 PM with a musically themed art show and reception, followed by theater, dance, poetry and classical music at the Presbyterian Church of the Mountain from 7:00 - 9:30 PM . Totts Gap Dance shares their talent with a performance during this annual show.

Bethlehem Celtic Fest 2016
BETHLEHEM, Pennsylvania, — The Celtic Cultural Alliance (CCA) will reach its 29th year of presenting the largest free Highland Games and Celtic festival in North America during the weekend of September 23rd through the 30th. This year brings back old Celtic Classic favorites such as Timlin & Kane, Seven Nations and the Glengarry Bhoys as well as new features like Low Lily, Moxie Strings, Barrule & Calan. From bagpipes to bodrahns, fiddles to whistles, Bethlehem will be filled with foot stomping Celtic music all weekend.
A wide variety of Scottish, Welsh and Irish bands and genres will take stage this September. The complete performer line up can be found at www.celticfest.org/entertainment
