Family Night Friday, April 11th 6:30-8:00 p.m. Bring your family along to the Jacobsburg Environmental Education Center for an evening outdoor adventure followed by a craft. On the second Friday of each month we will explore a different topic, from frogs, to butterflies, to hiking at night! This program is best for families with children ages 5 and up. To register, contact Lauren Forster at 610-746-2801 or [email protected]. Speaker Series: Dawn Konkoly Friday, April 25th 7:00-8:00 p.m. Join us as PhD candidate Dawn Fariello from Fordham University presents, “Pathogens That Are Hosted By Avian Individuals.” In the fields of human public health and wildlife health, birds occupy an important ecological role as vehicles of disease. Many bird species undergo long range migrations, increasing the distance pathogens may be potentially carried. Several recent scientific studies support that birds carrying Borrelia burgdorferi, the causative agent of Lyme disease, introduced the disease to areas historically uninfected. This spread was primarily attributed to birds carrying infected ticks during migration. Understanding the types of pathogens and how their prevalence varies in the avian community will lead to a better understanding of pathogen transmission and bird conservation efforts. To register, contact Rick Wiltraut at 610-746-2801 or [email protected]. Earth Day at Jacobsburg Saturday, April 26th 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Celebrate Earth Day at Jacobsburg Environmental Education Center by joining us for a bird banding demonstration, service project, and wildflower walk. Bring your lunch and spend the day outside learning about birds and wildflowers while also giving back to your local education center. To register, contact Lauren Forster at 610-746-2801 or [email protected]. For community programs, you can also register online at http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/ and click on “What to Do” and “Calendar of Events.” If you need an accommodation to participate in a program please contact the park office. With at least three days notice, interpreters for people who are deaf or hard of hearing are available for educational programs. April 10........Slate Belt Heritage Center Will Reveal Map
