Results showed that ratings of trustworthiness were highly similar between the two groups — even more similar than ratings of attractiveness — suggesting that we figure out almost instantaneously if we can trust someone. The Girl Before book by J. P. Delaney review by Judy Piper Emma and Simon occupy the flat at One Folgate Street until her death. Then Jane becomes the new tenant. Both Emma and Jane have a past that leads then to the quiet and unencumbered living quarters as designed by Edward Munkford, a renowned architect. Edward has a complicated application process, with many rules, that a prospective tenant must navigate. This flat has had several tenants before but none lasted very long. Both women have a unique relationship with Edward. How did Emma die? Is Jane in danger? These are some of the questions you will need to answer. The book is written in a style that keeps the story moving. One chapter is titled “Then Emma” and the next is “Now Jane.” The chapters keep interchanging until Emma dies. I found this book very interesting and suspenseful. Any mystery reader will enjoy

Season three began December 28 at the Hanover nest. The cameras and audio equipment installed for the 2016 season continue to provide excellent views and audio of this eagle family. The live stream began December 17, 2016 shortly after the installation of two new cameras and audio equipment. Eggs were laid on February 18 and 21. March 28 one of the eggs hatched; the nestling died two days later, perhaps injured by a branch being moved in the nest. The other egg never hatched and remained n the nest until May 23 when one of the adults removed the remnants from the nest. Hanover is located in south-central PA about five miles from the Mason-Dixon line. Entertainment This Week
Apollo 13 returns to Earth -1970
With the world anxiously watching, Apollo 13, a U.S. lunar spacecraft that suffered a severe malfunction on its journey to the moon, safely returns to Earth.
On April 11, the third manned lunar landing mission was launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida, carrying astronauts James A. Lovell, John L. Swigert, and Fred W. Haise. The mission was headed for a landing on the Fra Mauro highlands of the moon. However, two days into the mission, disaster struck 200,000 miles from Earth when oxygen tank No. 2 blew up in the spacecraft. Swigert reported to mission control on Earth, “Houston, we’ve had a problem here,” and it was discovered that the normal supply of oxygen, electricity, light, and water had been disrupted. The landing mission was aborted, and the astronauts and controllers on Earth scrambled to come up with emergency procedures. The crippled spacecraft continued to the moon, circled it, and began a long, cold journey back to Earth. The astronauts and mission control were faced with enormous logistical problems in stabilizing the spacecraft and its air supply, as well as providing enough energy to the damaged fuel cells to allow successful reentry into Earth’s atmosphere. Navigation was another problem, and Apollo 13‘s course was repeatedly corrected with dramatic and untested maneuvers. BHS Class of 1986 Scholarship A memorial scholarship was established in 1997 by the Bangor Area High School Class of 1986 to honor the memory of deceased classmates. It is named in Gary Moffett's honor because he not only served as Class Treasurer, but he also touched the lives of all who had the privilege to know him. They have since dedicated this memorial scholarship to recognize other classmates who have passed in recent years: David Pritchard, Cherry Oyer Klinger, Frank Lisovich, Melissa Fox Niceforo, and Kelly Cory.
A scholarship award of $500.00 will continue to be presented annually to a member of the graduating senior class at Bangor High School who best exemplifies the qualities which Gary embodied -- leadership, friendship, service, character, and scholastic achievement. The recipient is chosen by Gary's wonderful and loving family, and is announced during Commencement. Meet The Authors of Letters to Homefront
What began as a treasure trove find of over 4000 letters, postcards and
v-mails has culminated in the publishing of the Slate Belt Heritage Center’s latest book: Letters to Homefront Magazine: A Love Story Between a Community and Its WWII Soldiers. On Thursday, April 20, 2017 @ 7:00 PM, the Heritage Center will hold its monthly historic presentation entitled: “Meet the Authors”. Present will be: Marc Blau, Chip Turtzo, Deanna Ruzanski and Karen Brewer co-authors of the book along with the volunteer readers who assisted in bringing this story to fruition. It was a project that has been 15 years in the making since the finding of the letters and was finally put into forward motion as of October 2015. It has now blossomed into a total “Labor of Love”. The authors will be present to relate their journey throughout the process and answer questions.
On display, in the Chamber Showcases, will be “Homefront and World War II Memorabilia”. Distribution and book signing will be on Sunday April 23rd, at the Heritage Center from 9 -12 Noon. Pen Argyl, PA – State Senator Mario Scavello will continue his Healthy Living Series in partnership with Good Shepherd Physical Therapy to offer a free Fall Prevention and Balance Screening at his Pen Argyl District Office on Tuesday, April 25 from 10 a.m. to noon (2 N. Robinson Avenue, Pen Argyl).
A physical therapist will be present to perform a Balance and Fall Risk Assessment by conducting a timed sitting and walking exercise. Tips and information will also be provided to help individuals complete a fall prevention self-assessment, which is a checklist of items to check around the house to prevent falls.
“This balance screening will help provide constituents with the information they need to safely navigate their homes,” said Senator Scavello. “Injuries due to falls can be prevented and it is important that individuals know how to identify the risks and respond proactively.”

Featured Author will be Karen Shoemaker Katchur who will present her latest book: The Sisters of Blue Mountain. Main character in the book, Linnet, is owner of a Bed and Breakfast in Mountain Springs, Pennsylvania and her life has been a bit complicated lately. Hundreds of snow geese die overnight in the dam near the B&B, sparking a media frenzy, threatening the tourist season and bringing her estranged younger sister to town. A mystery evolves as a result of this occurrence and the sisters confront each other in a hidden past.
There will be a discussion and book signing with Ms. Katchur. Karen graduated from Bangor High School, holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from West Chester University and a Master of Education degree from East Stroudsburg University. She is an active member of International Thriller Writers and Mystery Writers of America. BMCL Lunch With The Author
The Blue Mountain Community Library will hold an “Lunch With An Author” event on Tuesday, May 2 at Grace United Methodist Church, 404 E. Mountain Ave., Pen Argyl, PA. The church is handicapped accessible with ample parking. (Enter from the lower parking lot). Local author, Kate Moretti, will discuss her latest novel, “The Vanishing Year,” a chilling, powerful tale of nerve-shattering suspense, which tells the story of Zoe Whittaker, a member of Manhattan’s social elite, whose dark past and secrets come back to haunt her. Moretti, who lives in Pennsylvania with her husband and two children, has worked in the pharmaceutical industry for ten years as a scientist. Performing Arts Live released the first portion of the Allentown JazzFest 2017 schedule. The program has broadened to include live spoken word and conversation performances, and will introduce new musical styles into JazzFest. Consistent with prior years, a large majority of the overall schedule will be free to the public. JazzFest opens on Wednesday, May 3, and concludes Sunday, May 7, 2017.
Today’s announcements are the first of a group of performer announcements that will stretch over the next three weeks. It is expected there will be 6 or 7 additional performances to be announced.
All the 2017 events will occur in the Hamilton Street downtown area between 9th and 5th Streets, except for one event in Emmaus. The schedule can be viewed and tickets can be purchased through allentownjazzfest.org.

The Bangor Elementary School PTO third annual GLOW SLATERS GLOW Neon 5K Fun Run/Walk will be held Saturday May 13 at the Bangor Area School District Complex. The 5K run begins at 9:00am, the Fun Run/Walk begins at 9:15am. There will be five splatter stations.

One highlight will be experiencing the exquisite wisteria in bloom.
