Wind Gap Bluegrass Festival The 38th annual Wind Gap Bluegrass Festival returns on May 22 – 26, 2019. A family-friendly camping festival features a variety of acoustic music including traditional and contemporary bluegrass, kid’s activities, jamming and instrument workshops. Located in Wind Gap, Pennsylvania in the Lehigh Valley. Come for a day or come all weekend! Featuring Nothin Fancy, Danny Paisley, Central Valley Boys, Eddie Adcock, Zink & Co, The Feinberg Brothers, Marteka & William, Band of Kelleys and many more! May 24 Mountain Highway Mountain Highway returns to eastern Pennsylvania this May to perform in the 38th annual Wind Gap Bluegrass Festival over Memorial Day weekend. With a style all their own, Mountain Highway is an authentic young family band steeped in traditional bluegrass and gospel music originally made famous by icons like Bill Monroe, Flatt & Scruggs, and Ralph Stanley. The group will be performing at the festival on Friday, May 24 and Saturday, May 25th at times to be determined. The entire festival, which includes a number of great artists like Danny Paisley, Little Roy and Lizzie, Nothin Fancy, Marteka & William, The Band of Kelleys, Remington Ryde, and Zink & Company, runs from Thursday, May 23 to Sunday, May 26, 2019. Bluegrass Academy for Kids The Bluegrass Academy has been teaching kids to play, sing and perform bluegrass music on site at the festival. The free 3 day program consists of guitar, fiddle, mandolin, banjo, bass, dobro and cello instruction and harmony singing. The grand finale is a performance Sunday afternoon on the Main Stage. Sign-up to have fun, learn new skills, grow in confidence and make friends. The academy is designed for kids age 8 and up. County Memorial Day Fest Northampton County Memorial Day Festival will be held Saturday, May 25, 2019 at 10 AM – 6 PM at Louise W Moore Park Country Club Rd, Easton, Pennsylvania 18045 Celebrate the County with live music, demonstrations, food vendors, crafters, vendors, and non-profit organizations. An Award Ceremony will honor an outstanding employee of the County and each of the County's municipalities, as well as an Outstanding Volunteer, Outstanding Youth, Outstanding Veteran, and Outstanding Emergency Personnel. Employee awards will be decided upon by the municipalities. To nominate a deserving individual for one of the other categories, please send an email with a 250 word essay on why the individual deserves to win the award and how they impact the County. May 26 Fish For Free Day If you’ve been thinking about trying fishing or wanting to introduce your child or a friend to the joys of the sport, you’ll have a great chance to do so next weekend! The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission will host Fish for Free Day next Sunday, May 26. On Fish for Free Days, anyone -- resident or non-resident -- can legally fish on all Pennsylvania waterways without a license. All other fishing regulations will still apply. For your convenience, there are even opportunities to borrow equipment from certain sites at state parks and other locations. Roseto Memorial Day Donovan Grom, Commander of Martocci-Capobianco American Legion Post # 750 in Roseto has announced the schedule of Memorial Day events for Monday May 27th. The legionnaires, lead by the Bangor Area High School Band under the direction of Mr. Eric Hahn, will depart from the Post home located on Garibaldi Ave at 8:30 a.m. and proceed to the New Catholic Cemetery where services will be held at 9:00. The contingent will then move to the Roseto Presbyterian Cemetery on Liberty St for services at 9:30. The final graveside services will be held at the Catholic cemetery adjacent to Our Lady of Mt Carmel church at 10:00. From this cemetery the legionnaires will proceed to the Municipal Plaza on Garibaldi Ave for the Community Services at the War Monuments beginning at 10:45 a.m. These services will also include the clergy from the area churches. In addition students from Bangor Middle School and Faith Christian School will read their winning essays on the topic “WHAT MEMORIAL DAY MEANS TO ME”. An oratorical presentation will be given by a student from Bangor Middle School. Wreaths will be placed on the War Monuments by the Post. In the event of inclement weather, the community services will be held indoors at the Post Home at 143 Garibaldi Ave. East Bangor Memorial Day A Memorial Day service will he held on Monday, May 27th, at 1:00 p.m. at the East Bangor Cemetery, Park Rd., East Bangor, PA. The speaker will be Scott Saltern, a Navy veteran.There will be a roll call of those veterans who have died in the past year and are now buried in the East Bangor Cemetery. Musical selections will be offered by Ellis Williams & Co. A gun salute will be fired by the Martocci-Capobianco Post 750 American Legion, Roseto. Taps will be played by Aryana Smith. The East Bangor Fire Co. will be in attendance. In case of rain, the service will be held at the East Bangor United Methodist Community Church, 136 W. Central Ave. (Rt. 512), East Bangor, PA.
