Cornish Presentation at Heritage Center
The Slate Belt Heritage Center will hold their monthly historic presentation on Sunday, November 13th @ 2:00 PM. Speaker for the afternoon will be Mr. Walter Cole who will give a program on the Cornish and their immigration to the United States from Cornwall, England. Topics include Cornwall as a Celtic nation, Cornish characteristics and culture. A power point presentation will include scenes of Cornwall and the world wide “Great immigration from the 1840”s until World War I.
The Cornish arrival and influence will be depicted in their contribution to businesses, as inventors and includes their social activities, characteristics, culture and economy. Upon coming to this area they originally settled in Pen Argyl and East Bangor where their impact is still noted. The Heritage Center is also exhibiting “The Cornish” in their Chamber Room showcases. The Bangor Lions is conjunction with Wendy's in Wind Gap will be having a fundraiser for the Bangor Lions Club. On the 9th of November from 5 to 8 pm, 15 percent of all sales will be donated to the Bangor Lions Club. Facebook's Halloween Emojis
Blasted as Inappropriate
Facebook's reaction emojis have switched temporarily to a Halloween theme, but it's a bit too cute for a lot of people, who have taken to Twitter and other social media outlets to put a frowny-face on it.
In February, Facebook added emojis as an option when you "like" a post, recognizing that it's inappropriate and limiting to restrict the only possible reaction to a "like." Now the choices run beyond to graphical representations of "love," "Haha," "wow," "sad" and "angry." Through the holiday, instead of plain emoji faces, they are a witch, a ghost, Frankenstein and a pumpkin.
The change is retroactive on all posts ... so it becomes problematic when a teary-eyed Frankenstein's monster shows up on the post about your grandpa dying last week. Or a surprised ghost on a friend revealing something personal.
A few Twitter users had a helpful suggestion for Facebook that could have come in handy.
Of course, not everyone was upset ...

The Museum of Modern Art in New York City just acquired the original 176 pictographs made by Shigetaka Kurita for telecom company DoCoMo in 1999 to allow weather forecasts and convoluted formal language to be condensed down to a single character or two – for texting.
Asked by NPR's Robert Seigel about the significance of the acquisition on Friday, senior MoMA curator Paola Antonelli said "It is hard to overstate it. I mean if you think about it, we cannot live without emojis today. We've become used into condensing our thoughts and our kind of emotions in them."
The "humble masterpieces" join Pac-Man and other graphics in the museum's permanent collection, recognized as important items of design. The emojis will soon be displayed in the museum's lobby.
What about modern emojis like Facebook's wistfully moist Frankenstein? Will they make the museum's collection?
"Maybe one day, and it depends on which ones," Antonelli said.

* Measure your time and where it is spent. Time is like the sand in the hourglass of life. Once it's gone, it's gone. Manage it like money. Every person walking this planet has the same exact number of hours in a day. Think of it as currency. How are you spending it? Seriously, take out the pen, paper and write down for one week how that most precious commodity was spent. Then change the allocation and budget time toward accomplishing that change you want, and maybe even desperately need. Own your hour glass of life and take control.
* Focus on your people. Ask yourself a tough question: Who are the people you care about most? Who do you impact, and who impacts you? These are the people that matter most in your life. NCC to Hold Nurse Aide Information Session

The Bangor Lions is conjunction with Wendy's in Wind Gap will be having a fundraiser for the Bangor Lions Club. On the 9th of November from 5 to 8 pm, 15 percent of all sales will be donated to the Bangor Lions Club. Please come out and support your local Lions Club and help us continue our service to the community.

The Slate Belt Photography Club will hold their regular meeting on Thursday, November 10 from 7pm to 8pm at Trinity Lutheran Church, 4th & Broadway, Bangor, PA.

As is its tradition, the ARTSPACE Gallery, located at 18 N. Seventh St., Stroudsburg, will open its doors as an art gift shop for the Holiday season. Participation in this year’s store is open to all PoconoArts members. Membership is an affordable $39 per year for individuals or $29 for seniors and artists may join to be in the store.

Cornish Presentation at Heritage Center
The Slate Belt Heritage Center will hold their monthly historic presentation on Sunday, November 13th @ 2:00 PM. Speaker for the afternoon will be Mr. Walter Cole who will give a program on the Cornish and their immigration to the United States from Cornwall, England. Topics include Cornwall as a Celtic nation, Cornish characteristics and culture. A power point presentation will include scenes of Cornwall and the world wide “Great immigration from the 1840”s until World War I. The Cornish arrival and influence will be depicted in their contribution to businesses, as inventors and includes their social activities, characteristics, culture and economy. Upon coming to this area they originally settled in Pen Argyl and East Bangor where their impact is still noted. The Heritage Center is also exhibiting “The Cornish” in their Chamber Room showcases.
