Scouts to honor Judge Zito The Boy Scouts of America, Minsi Trails Council, announce that Northampton County Court of Common Pleas Judge Leonard Zito will be honored with the Good Scout Award at the Annual Slate Belt Nazareth Friends of Scouting Breakfast scheduled 7:30am April 25 at the Washington Banquet Facility at Washington Township Fire Co. just south of Bangor.
Judge Zito will be recognized by Scouts, friends, family, business and community leaders for his significant achievements and service to the Slate Belt Nazareth community. The Good Scout Award recognizes individuals who set positive examples for others and demonstrate selfless concern and care for their communities. Minsi Trails Council provides leadership and character development programs to nearly 11,000 youth with 5,000 adult volunteers. The council serves young people throughout the Anthracite Region, Pocono Mountains and Lehigh Valley in Pennsylvania along with western New Jersey and serves six-counties: Lehigh, Northampton, Monroe, Carbon, Luzerne, and Warren counties. The local Scouting heritage dates back more than 100 years when the council’s first Scout troops were established in the Allentown and Easton areas. The Blue Mountain Community Library will be holding a “Library Night at Wendy’s” Fundraiser in Wind Gap on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm.
The Restaurant will generously donate a portion of all sales that night to the Library in Pen Argyl. The fundraiser will include both eat-in and drive through orders. Please consider supporting the Blue Mountain Community Library by enjoying a meal at Wendy’s. The money will be used to purchase new books and to meet the many expenses associated with maintaining the building. Membership to the library is free to all residents of the Pen Argyl School District and non-residents may join for a small yearly fee. Northampton Community College (NCC) will hold its fourth annual Peace and Justice Conference on Thursday, March 27, 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., at Lipkin Theatre, Kopecek Hall, Main Campus, 3835 Green Pond Road, Bethlehem Township.
Kelsey Timmerman, the author of WHERE AM I WEARING? A Global Tour to the Countries, Factories and People That Make Our Clothes and WHERE AM I EATING? An Adventure Through the Global Food Economy, will give a talk, “Going Glocal: A Search for Community in a Globalized Economy.” He will discuss what America’s increased reliance on imported food means for the people around the world who produce the food. He has worked alongside fishermen, loaded lobster boats in Nicaragua, split cocoa beans with a slave on the Ivory Coast, and hauled tomatoes in Ohio. He will explore the global food economy through stories about workers’ rights, the global food crisis, fair trade, slavery, and immigration. Timmerman’s writing has appeared in publications such as The Christian Science Monitor and Conde Nast Portfolio and has aired on National Public Radio. He has farmed on four continents, taught an island Honduran community to play baseball and co-founded the Facing Project, which seeks to connect people through stories to strengthen community. Featured author will be Ms. Amanda Grieme. The author has bipolar disorder, as does her main character in her novel Dear Prudence.

Northampton Community College, in cooperation with Lehigh Valley Dance Exchange and Monarch Dance Company, will host the second annual “SpringUP” dance festival on March 29-30.
The two-day festival will feature guest artists from New York City, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh for a weekend of master classes and performances. Registration is free and open to professional-level dancers in college and beyond. Festival Registration includes free all-access to performances. March 31........East Bangor UMCC Study Session During the season of Lent, the East Bangor United Methodist Community Church will hold a four-session video-based study on the major themes of Dietrich Bonhoeffer. Bonhoeffer was a major figure in 20th century Germany and throughout the world. Due to his anti-Nazi convictions, he was ultimately executed in 1945 at the age of 39. His influence continues to have an impact today in the thought and life in global Christianity.
Sessions will be held on Mondays at 7:00 p.m. on March, 31, and April 7. There will be no session on March 24. No books will be needed for this study. The church is located at 136 W.
