LONDON, June 3 (UPI) -- A French bulldog in London showed off his shredding skills at a local park by climbing atop his skateboard and taking a ride.
The video, posted to YouTube by user ErocSkates, shows Eroc the French bulldog first jumping onto the moving skateboard at Clissord Park and using one of his paws to push for speed. The skateboard eventually comes to a stop, but Eroc continues his demonstration by carrying the skateboard in his mouth, getting a running start and then climbing onto the board. Eroc circles the asphault lot on his own without any help from humans, pushing or otherwise.

At the center of it all is the ability for individuals to create their own video, photo and written content that allows them to express opinions and thoughts in real-time. It is estimated that while average millennials will take 25,000 selfies in a lifetime, they are replacing the static selfie with self-produced videos to express themselves more fully. Users are taking to multiple platforms -- including Instagram, Snapchat and Facebook Live -- to share richer details of their everyday lives through streaming video content as a way of cultivating their own personal brand to their followers. “Millennials are attracted to selfies and mobile videos as a way of sharing their opinions and voices,” says Jarret Streiner, CEO and President of Selfeo, an immersive, interactive video distribution platform that encourages users to engage with one another. “Self-produced video and picture content brings about a whole new form of expression to users.” Users are offering real-time reactions on a variety of topics from the must-watch series finale to the big game. In this election year, new trends -- and controversies -- have also emerged. For example, the so-called “selfie-ballot” has become a popular way to celebrate civic engagement -- whereby voters post Election Day pictures and videos to their social media accounts; however some states are banning the practice due to general restrictions on photography in the voting booth. “Video-distribution platforms are taking on a growing relevance in the lives of individuals, because they provide an alternative platform to mainstream media. Society is dealing with the resulting changes,” says Streiner. Brands too are getting in on the trend, using social media platforms to connect with consumers via mobile video. While only 24 percent of national brands are now using online video to market to consumers, according to Kantar Media, that percentage will likely grow. “Brands’ mobile video is taking a central role in influencing our purchasing decisions,” says Streiner. With these types of social media capabilities so readily available to consumers, and a growing number of people looking for active engagement with one another on the hot topics of the day, experts say that mobile video and selfies are here to stay

Experts caution however, that what’s happening there could happen anywhere, anytime to whole neighborhoods, individual streets or even just to a specific house. Indeed, plumbing components still could legally contain up to eight percent lead as recently as January 2014. The good news is there are steps you can take to protect your family. “The most important thing individual families can do to improve water quality is to filter it at home,” says Joseph Harrison, former chief of the EPA’s Safe Drinking Water Branch. Harrison says there are filters that require installation, but the easiest option is to purchase a filtering system available at a local retailer that you fill with water and put in your fridge. Such systems come in various shapes and sizes, making them a good option for any size family or fridge. For example, ZeroWater offers the only portable gravity-fed pour through filtration device that reduces the Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) measurement down to virtually zero and are certified by the NSF for lead reduction and other heavy metals to a safe level. BAHS School Marching Band Uniform Fund Drive The Bangor Area High School Marching Band uniforms, which are modeled after Her Majesty’s Royal Welsh Guard, pay tribute to the heritage of Bangor, PA. Anna Caldera The Initiative Award is presented to an individual who has shown exemplary actions in promoting and preserving the Slate Belt Heritage through In-Kind actions. This years recipient is Ms. Anna Caldera. Ms. Caldera played an integral part in editing all seven (7) books in the Heritage Center's "Ethnic Heritage Series". She volunteered, working countless hours advising and making adaptations along with the authors to produce prominent literary publications without thought of compensation. She has shown patience and guidance every stop of the way, making the ethnic project a huge success. Gage Parachos The Architectural Award is presented to an individual who has performed an exemplary act in saving or conserving a historic building, place or artifact where restoration is authentic to preservation. This years recipient is Mr. Gage Parachos. Mr. Parachos completed, as an Eagle Scout project, the restoration of the historic Portland Jail. Mr. Parachos repaired, plastered and sealed the stone walls, rebuilt the wood flooring, restored the jail windows and original door (found buried in the dirt) and placed artifacts to enhance the replication. He documented his work from beginning to end with a scrapbook of pictures. He followed up the project with clearing the grounds, making the walkway accessible and did exterior painting which enhanced his work. Joe DeFranco The Special Focus Award is presented to an individual who has shown exemplary actions in saving or conserving tradition or a body of knowledge: that individual who contributes to educational information via documentation. This years recipient is Mr. Joseph DeFranco. Mr. DeFranco has always enjoyed telling stories to friends, reading articles about Italy, food magazines and cookbooks, along with being surrounded by his grandparents who had the greatest influence on him. All of this has inspired him to write vignettes for the Blue Valley times, Slate Belt Magazine: The Belt and Beyond and subsequently publishing his own book "Growing Up in the Butcher Shop". Mr. DeFranco strived to keep the old customs alive so that the younger generation will have an idea as to his way of life growing up in the sixties, in a butcher shop and also for the older generations to reminisce days gone by. His efforts to conserve the Italian traditions via of educational information and documentation of his families heritage has earned him this reward. A ceremony to honor all three achievements will be held on Thursday, June 16th at 7:00 PM at the Heritage Center located at 30 North 1st Street, Bangor, PA The event is free and open to the public.
