Science Fact......
In Native American cultures which tracked the calendar by the Moons, December’s Full Moon was known as the Full Cold Moon. It is the month when the winter cold fastens its grip and the nights become long and dark.
This full Moon is also called the Long Nights Moon by some Native American tribes because it’s near the winter solstice—the night with the least amount of daylight.

Winter Woes: Dry Eye More Prevalent in Winter
While it is difficult to avoid dry eyes altogether during the winter months, there are several steps that you can take to ensure your eyes stay soothed while indoors this season.
Help for the home
During the frigid winter months, a home’s humidity level can easily dip below the 30-55 percent range required for our eyes to stay lubricated. Offset this dry air by using a humidifier in your home. An alternative is leaving off the exhaust in your bathroom while you shower.
Also, refrain from using a ceiling fan while sleeping at night, as drafts can also exacerbate symptoms. To keep this culprit in check, light a match in the room you are in to find where the draft is located.
Fill up on fluids
Even mild dehydration can negatively affect how dry your eyes feel, as cold temperatures can dampen the body’s thirst mechanism and artificial heat hastens tear evaporation. Keep eyes hydrated by sipping water throughout the day. Also, increase your intake of fluid-rich foods like soup, fruits and veggies. Adding a cup of hot tea or water with lemon can not only keep you cozy on a chilly day, but ensure proper hydration as well.
Nourish your body
Many clinical studies show omega-3 fatty acids, which are considered essential fatty acids, may protect adult eyes from dry eye syndrome. Omega-3s support healthy tear production and keep eyes moisturized. In addition to omega-3s, other ingredients like Vitamin A, D3, green tea and evening primrose oil can significantly accelerate the time it takes to feel relief. A formula like EyePromise EZ Tears, which contains nine soothing ingredients to target symptoms from the inside, offers rapid results with the dietary ingredients mentioned.
Watery eye help
In cold and windy conditions, many complain their eyes water more than normal. Typically the symptoms of watery eye are excessive tearing, which is made worse by being outdoors. Wearing spectacles will provide protection against the wind, even if you don’t usually wear them outdoors. In some cases, excessive watering of the eyes may be a sign of a blockage of tear ducts or infection of the eye.
If you are concerned about the health of your eyes — whether tear production is suboptimal or you suffer from watery eyes, visit your optometrist. Your eye care professional will be able to advise you on the best course of action.
Man in Christmas Tree Costume Runs Through Tokyo
Joseph Tame, an inventor and owner of a video production and digital media business in Tokyo, said he built his "Running Christmas Tree" costume from an aluminum frame, two rucksacks, branches from two fake Christmas trees, 99 batteries, 1,500 LED lights and 100 feet of wiring.
Tame posted a video to YouTube showing the reactions of passersby who give him high fives as he runs down the streets of Tokyo.
"The reactions range from sudden burst of laughter to a couple of people have screamed in surprise and in delight," Tame told CNN. "A lot of people just say 'What? What? What are you doing?' And I tell them I'm being a Christmas tree."
Tame said he is taking bookings for personal appearances in the Christmas tree suit, which he is billing as "Uber for illuminations."
He said tree fans will soon be able to book appearances using an iOS app.
"One of the main things is to break the social barriers. Tokyo is a great city but people keep to themselves. It brings people to get together. On the train, it's just wonderful. Everybody is just transfixed," Tame said.
He said he will be out Christmas Day to spread the cheer.
"Most people are working on Christmas Day in Japan but hopefully with the costume they can also see a bit of Christmas on the day," he said.

Ask The Doc........ Technology can be wonderful!
by Dr. Gary Williams, DMD
garywilliamsdmd.com I know sometimes new technologies can be frustrating and leave us questioning whether “progress” is worth the hassle. But, that is not the case with intra-oral digital scanners. We have been using our digital scanner at Family Dental Care now for 3 months, and the results are amazing. Sure, it’s pretty “cool” technology, and it has been totally comfortable for patients. No gagging going on! And the turn around time is much shorter. All of these are pluses, but here is the real benefit… the accuracy and fit of what we are making. I can comfortably predict a great fit of your new crowns, splints, Invisalign aligners, retainers, and anything else we scan for. That makes it worthwhile. It’s one thing to restore your mouth to health, but I want, you want, and you deserve to rest assured that what is placed in your mouth is the best possible fit known to dentistry. Digital scanning is here to stay at Family Dental Care. Feel free to ask us about our scanner. Garywilliamsdmd.com. Slate Belt Senior Center
