Teen Detained for Alleged Threats According a news release from the Slate Belt Regional Police, SBRPD investigated a report February 23 from Pen Argyl High School of a student who had made threats while inside the school. Police interviewed students who advised that they had overheard the 16-year old student make threats to “shoot up the school” and claimed he had a “kill list." Police learned that the student was placed on suspension from the school district. He was then brought into headquarters where he was interviewed, taken into custody and lodged at the Youth Detention Center. Police later served a search warrant at the home of the student and found no weapons, writings or “kill list”. The student appeared to make no attempt to harm any students/staff and made no substantial attempt to acquire weapons. Police worked closely with the Pen Argyl School District Staff, Northampton County Juvenile Probation and the Northampton County District Attorney’s Office during this investigation. Since the school shooting in Parkland, Florida, SBRPD officers have increased patrols in the area of our schools and have increased foot patrols inside the school buildings. ![]() Bangor's Morgan Karasek drives to the basket during the Slaters' 44-32 loss to Pottsville in a District 5A semi final played at Pottsville Saturday. THIS DAY IN HISTORY - February 26
Two national parks preserved, 10 years apart 1919
On this day in history, two national parks were established in the United States10 years apart–the Grand Canyon in 1919 and the Grand Tetons in 1929.
Located in northwestern Arizona, the Grand Canyon is the product of millions of years of excavation by the mighty Colorado River. The chasm is exceptionally deep, dropping more than a mile into the earth, and is 15 miles across at its widest point. The canyon is hometo more than 1,500 plant species and over 500 animal species, many of them endangered or unique to the area, and it’s steep, multi-colored walls tell the story of 2 billion years of Earth’s history.
In 1540, members of an expedition sent by the Spanish explorer Coronado became the first Europeans to discover the canyon, though because of its remoteness the area was not further explored until 300 years later. American geologist John Wesley Powell, who popularized the term “Grand Canyon” in the 1870s, became the first person to journey the entire length of the gorge in 1869. The harrowing voyage was made in four rowboats.

Harlem Wizards Basketball Game
The Bangor Area Middle School PTSO (Parent, Teacher, Student, Organization) is hosting its 1st Annual Harlem Wizards Basketball Game on April 7, 2018. While the PTSO is fairly new, we are running this fundraiser in hopes that we can raise enough money to assist the school with future purchases that are not in their budget such as: new library books, school supplies and equipment, funding field trips and assemblies, as well as assist with purchases for the school dances throughout the year. We wanted to take a new approach to fundraising and offer a family friendly event that would bring the community together for a great cause and promote wellness at the same time. We will have our own team consisting of teachers and staff from each school in the district as well as some High School players. Our team will be playing against the Harlem Wizards.
To purchase tickets online you can go to: https://www.harlemwizards.com/schedule-tickets/ Find the April calendar and click on April 7th, Bangor, PA. Any businesses interested in being a sponsor for this event can contact Debbie Smith, 610-751-7692 or Kim Gambale, 484-241-0441 or email: bamsptso@gmail.com
