Pocono Hospital and LVHN Merging East Stroudsburg, Pa. Pocono Health System (PHS) and Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) have met the regulatory requirements to merge. Effective Jan. 1, 2017 PHS becomes part of Lehigh Valley Health Network and Pocono Medical Center will become Lehigh Valley Hospital–Pocono.
As PHS transitions into LVHN, leadership changes also will take place. Jeff Snyder, PHS’s President and Chief Executive Officer, informed the PHS board of his plan to resign from his role effective Dec. 31. Elizabeth Wise, PHS’s Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Chief Nursing Officer (CNO), will assume the role of Acting President of Lehigh Valley Hospital–Pocono on Jan. 1. Snyder will continue to provide consultation during a 30-day merger transition period. “I have decided it is time to pursue my desire to lead in a different capacity,” Snyder said. “It’s been my honor and privilege to serve the Pocono community, and our residents and colleagues will be in good hands with Lehigh Valley Health Network and Elizabeth’s leadership.” PHS Board Chairman Andrew Worthington praised Snyder’s leadership, including his role in facilitating the merger and elevating the overall quality at PHS. Under Snyder’s leadership, the system has earned “A” grades for patient safety from Leapfrog, a 4-star rating from CMS and recognition from Healthgrades for Patient Safety Excellence and U.S. News & World Report for Best Regional Hospital.

Slate Belt Regional Police
Trespassing / Disorderly Conduct On December 28 at approximately 11:40am, Slate Belt Regional Police were called to a residence in the 100 block of N. Schanck Ave in Pen Argyl Borough for a report of an unwanted person at the residence. Officers arrived and found a 34-year old man highly intoxicated, refusing to leave the home. The man repeatedly told officers that he would fight if police attempted to arrest him. He shouted profanities at residents in the area and was taken into custody. He was arraigned by District Judge Zito and placed in NCP on $15,000 bail. A probation violation detainer was also issued.

BISMARCK, N.D., Dec. 29 (UPI) -- A North Dakota man managed to get some laughs out of his neighbors amid a major snowstorm by clearing his driveway while dressed as a Tyrannosaurus Rex.
Samantha Walz captured video of her husband wearing his T-Rex costume while using their snowblower to clear their driveway. The snow-blowing T-Rex had quite the task ahead of him, as about 40 inches of snow recently fell in the area of his Bismarck home. BAHS Marching Band Uniform Fund Drive The Bangor Area High School Marching Band uniforms, which are modeled after Her Majesty’s Royal Welsh Guard, pay tribute to the heritage of Bangor, PA. The East Bangor United Methodist Community Church will celebrate a "Love Feast" during the worship service on Sunday, January 8th at 9:15 a.m (rescheduled from December). A "Love Feast" is a special service of song, prayer and food. BAHS Hosting District 10 Chorus
Bangor High School will host PMEA District 10 Chorus Concert: Friday, January 13, 7:00 pm and Saturday, January 14, 2:00 pm at the M. Craig Paine Performing Arts Theater. All are welcomed and admission is free.
Bangor Elks Hoop Shoot
The annual Bangor Elks Lodge 1106 sponsored “Hoop Shoot” free throw contest will be held at Washington Elementary Gym on Saturday, January 14 at 1:00 P. M. Youngsters from Bangor, Pen Argyl, Faith Christian, Easton, Nazareth, Wilson, and Notre Dame are welcome to compete. You can register at the school on the day of the contest at 12:30 P. M. when the doors open.
First place winners and runner-ups will receive plaques with the first place winner advancing to district competition on January 28, 2017 hosted by the Bangor Elks Lodge.This is the forty-fifth year for this youth national event.

Columcille's Annual Women's Retreat Weekend will be held January 27th thru January 29th, 2017.

We are very excited to announce that Columcille's Annual Women's Retreat will once again be held at the Kirkridge Farmhouse.
Keeping with tradition, the Women of Columcille invite you to come celebrate and honor our beloved Brighid, Goddess of Fire and Water. It is also that time of year when life slowly begins to flow and move underneath. It is the return of 'Light', the beginning of Spring also known as Imbolc 'flowing of ewe's milk' when it was all agrarian society. Let's celebrate and prepare ourselves for the return of 'Light' once again through ceremony, song, ritual and camaraderie of all your Sistars or just take 'me' time, walk the land, meditate and reflect!
Of course, there is play time for the 'inner child' to create and express herself with our craft time! Later we honor Brighid with a healing Fire ceremony, followed by our deeply bonding bonfire gathering with song, chants, and 'placing of cloths' for Brighid's Blessings. Then let off 'steam' from all that fire work with a pulsating drumming circle!
Gift yourself with the richly rewarding and fulfilling retreat experience, whether it be just one day or the whole weekend. It promises to be one of joy, growth, new friends, self-discovery and empowerment - doing 'inner work' has never been so rewarding! We look forward to 'connecting' with all our Sistars!

Allentown, PA: The Lehigh Valley Steelhawks are happy to announce their 2017 National Arena League (NAL) schedule. Featuring six home and six away games, the Steelhawks season opens at home on Sunday, March 19 th at 4pm against the expansion Dayton Wolfpack.
“After much anticipation are thrilled to be able to release our 2017 league schedule today,” stated Steelhawks General Manager Mike Clark. “The National Arena League is ready to kickoff its inaugural season, and we can’t wait to start our seventh year of play. Week one can’t come soon enough, and we look forward to seeing the Steelhawks faithful out in full force this season inside the PPL Center.” Additional schedule highlights include a Week Three matchup where the team will be making the long trip to Florida to take on the Jacksonville Sharks, former members of the AFL. Week Four brings a familiar opponent to the Valley; the Columbus Lions will be in the Hawks Nest for the Steelhawks second home game on April 9th. The Steelhawks closest rivals this year will be the Dayton (Ohio) Wolfpack and the High Country (North Carolina) Grizzlies, each of whom appear on Lehigh Valley’s schedule multiple times; LV faces Dayton four times – two home, two away, and High Country three times – one home, two away.
