SBRPD Participating in Aggressive-Driving Enforcement The Slate Belt Regional Police Department will join the Pennsylvania State Police and over 235 municipal agencies to conduct the second targeted aggressive driving enforcement wave from March 19 to April 29, 2018.
As part of the Aggressive Driving Enforcement and Education Project, the second wave will aim to reduce the number of aggressive driving related crashes, injuries and deaths on roadways throughout the State. Any aggressive driver stopped by police will receive a citation. The enforcement wave will focus on speeding, work zones safety violations and keeping right-passing left. Motorists exhibiting other unsafe behaviors such as driving too fast for conditions, following too closely, or other aggressive actions will also be cited. Municipal police agencies that participated in last year’s campaign wrote 44,610 aggressive-driving related citations, including 27,017 for speeding. Failing to stop for red lights and stop signs resulted in 2,493 citations. Additionally, the enforcement accounted for 33 felony arrests, 94 fugitives apprehended, 137 impaired driving arrests and 1,203 occupant protection citations. The aggressive driving enforcement is a part of the Pennsylvania Aggressive Driving Enforcement and Education Project and is funded by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Drinking Alcohol Affects How much your children drink Alcoholism is partly genetic, so family history is commonly associated with people's risk of the disease. However, whether you choose to drink can still affect your child's decision on imbibing, regardless of risk of alcoholism.
"If you grow up with parents who pray before dinner, you'll pray before dinner," Zakhari said, stating that the same situation occurs in children imitating how much their parents drink. Choosing to drink moderately, however, can result in kids imitating such behavior later in life, so they could also benefit from the positive effects of alcohol. 100-year-old Woman Credits Beer for Longevity Ask a 100-year-old California woman about the key to a long life and she'll provide a very specific answer: One beer and three potato chips every night.
"I do my exercises every day. And have my beer. Eat my potato chips. That's about all," Matilda Curcia told NBC 7 San Diego. "I've experienced good health… I have no pain." Curcia and her longtime friend and neighbor Mickey both turned 100 this month, celebrating with their families at a joint birthday party in San Diego. Putting couch potatoes to shame everywhere, the centenarians still walk regularly and sometimes ride their bikes. Curcia's daily ale habit may seem whimsical, but it's consistent with the findings of The 90+ Study, one of the largest studies in the world of the "oldest-old." It turned out people who drank moderate amounts of alcohol — about two glasses of beer or wine daily — lived longer than those who abstained. "I have no explanation for it, but I do firmly believe that modest drinking is associated with longevity," said Dr. Claudia Kawas, the co-principal investigator of The 90+ Study, last month. Other experts and studies were skeptical about alcohol's role in longevity, noting it increases the risk of cancer and can lead to other health problems. But everyone agreed on the importance of exercise in living a long life. Curcia said she moves every day, and indeed, as little as 15 minutes of exercise a day was associated with greater longevity in The 90+ Study. The sweet spot seemed to be 45 minutes of movement a day, Kawas said. Regular exercise improved memory and thinking skills in people over 50, another study published last year found. It also took away the years of damage people have done by being sedentary, researchers said in January. As for Curcia's affinity for potato chips, she practices portion control — a key in managing weight. But it's also likely the right combination of genes protect centenarians despite their bad habits, like eating salty, fatty, nutrient-poor snacks, experts say. Some longevity superstars have famously enjoyed bacon and whiskey every day, but that doesn't mean the rest of us can. "For the most part, eating red meat frequently, smoking, drinking too much alcohol, being overweight, not exercising, not managing your stress well — that's what's going to make people die generally in their 50s and 60s," said Dr. Thomas Perls, director of the New England Centenarian Study and professor at the Boston University School of Medicine. THIS DAY IN HISTORY - March 12FDR gives first fireside chat 1933 On this day in 1933, eight days after his inauguration, President Franklin D. Roosevelt gives his first national radio address or “fireside chat,” broadcast directly from the White House. Roosevelt began that first address simply: “I want to talk for a few minutes with the people of the United States about banking.” He went on to explain his recent decision to close the nation’s banks in order to stop a surge in mass withdrawals by panicked investors worried about possible bank failures. The banks would be reopening the next day, Roosevelt said, and he thanked the public for their “fortitude and good temper” during the “banking holiday.” At the time, the U.S. was at the lowest point of the Great Depression, with between 25 and 33 percent of the work force unemployed. The nation was worried, and Roosevelt’s address was designed to ease fears and to inspire confidence in his leadership. Roosevelt went on to deliver 30 more of these broadcasts between March 1933 and June 1944. They reached an astonishing number of American households, 90 percent of which owned a radio at the time.

They will be posting more as the time gets closer. Please feel free to share! The Swap Meet is May 19th and 20th. Spots are available on a first come first serve basis. A spot is 20' X 25' and are $50.00 per spot and allows you both days. You can use more than one spot, but you will need to pay $50.00 for each additional spot you use.
